$100M U.S. health care fraud happens in the Philippines
I HATE TO REPORT THESE THINGS!
But it happened. And surprisingly, there isn’t a lot of media on this.
The U.S. military’s health insurance program has been swindled out of more than $100 million over the past decade in the Philippines, where doctors, hospitals and clinics have conspired with American veterans to submit bogus claims, according to prosecutors and court records. - AP (full news here)
The health insurance in the center of it all is Tricare, a Pentagon-run program for servicemen and their dependents. The fraud has been so extensive that of the 37 people indicted, about 20 remain free!

media’s sensationalizing the blame on doctors. don’t you think there’s more to it than that? claims have been forged by syndicates and checks issued by tricare have been stolen and encashed straight from the post office to rural banks. proper investigations should be done, not just point fingers on health professionals just because their names are the easiest to point a finger at.
