Wishing for a Taxi in LB
I don’t own a car, so I rely mostly on public transportation. Here in Los Baños, there’s only the jeepney and the tricycle (or pedicab) available to get you around, and the public bus (these days vans are getting more popular) if you want to get as far as the next town like Calamba or San Pablo, even as far as Festival Mall Alabang, SM South Mall Las Piñas or Robinson’s Dasmariñas (Cavite).
This may be the Science and Nature City but even if most fast food chains and town malls have sprouted around in the last 10 years, Los Baños remains rural as it can be. Yes baby, no taxi!
Until I can get my own car, I really wish that there’s a taxi here in LB, as there are areas (like the whole UP campus and most research institutes) where tricycles are not allowed. And if you have to single-handedly trot around with a rowdy toddler with a huge pack of baby stuff on your back and 2 grocery bags in your hands (not to mention the long umbrella that should be handy in these rainy days), with safety in mind, I’d rather walk than take the tricycle. But then again, walking (in the condition I described) poses another kind of danger. So I’ve always gambled with this metal trike and so far ended home safe. The mere thought of flagging down a taxi is heavenly though.
