2005 SEA GAMES: In the Philippines

Yes, the 2005 SEA Games is being hosted by the Philippines…just in case you haven’t heard.
There isn’t much media hype on this event. It’s either lack of preparation, lack of funds or the media has bigger fish to fry.

The Filipino Beauty Pageant Syndrome

Edgar Dignadice Cadiente of Sun.Star General Santos said:
Philippines is a country of beauty pageants. It is an anywhere, anytime event. I can’t imagine a Philippine town fiesta in this country without a beauty contest. More often than not, a beauty competition is the celebration’s highlight.

I wonder […]

Noli Me Tangere, The Musicale

Ryan Cayabyab’s Noli Me Tangere the Musicale since its premiere 10 years ago is once again staged at the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ (CCP) Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino. The play opened November 11 and will run until December 4.
Now sharper, brighter and more enthralling than ever, Noli Me Tangere speaks truths and moves hearts […]

Q is for Quality

Yes, QTV-11 has its own website and its HERE. I think the nice comments on my previous post are really meant for that website. (Apparently, if you hit QTV-11 on Google, my earlier post is number 1 on the search list). I can’t complain though. :))
Well, QTV-11 really has a different twist to it. […]

Sharon “Sings” Again

Despite her show business come back, Sharon Cuneta can only be seen locally on TV product endorsements and recently on some TV shows promoting her recent album “Sharon Sings Alcasid”.
Apparently she has been on a US Concert Tour and was in Guam, the past weekend.
In Guam’s Pacific Daily News:
In between songs, Cuneta provided a […]

Quezon City: The Richest City in the Pilippines?

Quezon City, Philippines- It prides itself as the only city in the Philippines whose treasury is oozing with moolah. The richest among the country’s 115 cities.
Its sources of income are veritable money-printing machines; real estate taxes from its 16,112 hectares of land, R1.6 billion; from its more than 50,000 business establishments, R1.5 billion. Not […]

Confessions of Jackie Forster

Of all Philippine celebrities turned single moms due to marriage annulments and/or legal separation; Jackie Forster is a big question mark to me. For one; her two kids are with ex-hubby Benjie Paras. Kids that she claimed were taken away from her. She too claimed to be a very loving and devoted mother. Their […]

“Use your Coconut!”

Sometime in the beginning of this blog, I posted about the coconut.
Whenever I say coconut or hear somebody say that word I can’t help but be reminded of one elementary school teacher’s favorite quip when reprimanding some pupils who were rather slow in coping with the brightests in the class: “Use your coconut!” Derogatorily referring […]

Pinoy Abroad and I-Witness: Not for the Insomniacs and Nocturnals Alone

I have been such a sleepy-head these days I’ve missed out on some of my late-night favorite shows on TV: Pinoy Abroad and I-Witness.
IMHO, I believe that shows like these should be shown on primetime (earlier in the evening: about 6-9 pm) instead of those crappy tele-seryes and fanta-seryes that’s so prominent on Philippine TV […]

Balut…Anyone?

“No way man, not even for a million $$$!”
That’s the usual answer I get whenever I tease European friends and visitors for an offer of Balut, a Filipino delicacy.
Read a foreigner’s account of his balut experience.
Hey, it’s not so bad. I love eating balut. Nope, not in the dark.
Now, if only somebody […]
