Crowded Green Pastures
Filipinos have been known to seek greener pastures: the overseas Filipino workers and the migrant Filipinos. There was a time Filipinos were made to believe that we are the best (nurses, engineers, care-givers, sea men, domestic helpers) in the world market. Maybe because we speak better english (as compared with other asian counterparts); maybe because we are a more hardworking lot; maybe because its cheaper to hire Filipinos.
But then time passed by and maybe we’re not the best English speakers of South East Asia anymore; maybe our Asian neighbors have grown better workers than us; or maybe we’re not the cheapest workers anymore.
Jayson M. Barola, a Filipino Industrial in Bahrain wittily wrote in INQ7.net’s Youngblood section:
The thing is, it is not only we carabaos who are grazing in Bahrain. The country is now flooded with Asian migrant workers in what looks like a giant Asian invasion. It’s getting tough and very competitive out there in the “fields”.
A very interesting point of view. Reminds one to excel in one’s craft and to always do better than the rest wherever you are in the world.
