Philippines’ GMA-7 Wins Big at Asian TV Awards 2005
Politics and economy aside, the Philippines is not only shining in sports (read previous post) these days but also in the entertainment department.
In the recently concluded Asian TV Awards 2005 held in Singapore, GMA Network Channel 7 of the Philippines was the biggest winner of the night, notching up five awards:
Best Terrestrial Channel: GMA-7
Best Entertainment (One-Off/Annual) Special: EAT…BULAGA Silver Special
Best Social Awareness Programme: I-Witness: The GMA Documentaries: Skin and Bones (Buto’t Balat)
Best Drama Performance by an Actor: Nonie Buencamino for Magpakailanman (Till the End of Time) : Despite The Hurts: An AIDS Victim Story
Best Comedy Performance by an Actor: Michael V. for Bubble Gang
Beethoven Bunagan in real life, Michael V. (as he is more popularly known in the Philippine entertainment industry) the country’s “master of disguises”, a tv host, actor, singer/rapper and comedian is also this year’s TOYM Awardee for Entertainment.
A lot of things (both good and bad) may have been said about the Philippines and the Filipinos but in these rare events, two of our most prominent character as a nation and people undeniably shined: un-matched hospitality (as we have shown in the SEA Games) and un-questionable talent, entertainment-wise.
What can I say? Though this country’s politics and economy terribly sucks to the bones, one thing will never change, Filipinos will always be a bunch of cheerful, talented, hospitable people. Yeah, come hell and high waters!
