Pops Personified
Pops Fernandez’s love life is in full swing these days:
“I am single, and it is the privilege of single women to go out with as many decent single men who are willing to take them out”, she reasons out.
She goes on to stress, though: “If I have been going out with younger men, it is not because I seek them out, it is because they seek me out. And since they are decent, interesting and presentable young men, I don’t see anything wrong with going out with them.”

Pops is former wife to Martin Nievera and dubbed with the title Concert Queen. A title that has been to me quite questionable because a lot other Filipino female artists these days can be called such.
But well, Pops started her singing career at about 16 and those days she is one of the rare few who can sing and dance at the same time. I think there was only Sharon up against her during that time. (At least Sharon can act!) Later when she was paired with Martin, they became concert queen and king. In Philippine Show Business, it looks like there is a first-come-first-serve basis with regards to titles (irregardless of talent).
When Pops got out of the ABS-CBN network some couple of years ago (leaving the defunct noon-time show ASAP) GMA-7 was kind of experimenting where to put her. It was really pathetic. Most especially when they placed her to co-host in SOP for awhile; she sounded worse than an amateur against the singing prowess of the SOP hosts. (How could they have called her concert queen?)
Okay, so I don’t like Pops. I think she was misplaced in her earlier career (singing, acting) but now that she’s venturing into the Beauty and Fashion Industry, I guess she found herself, finally.
