Good news for back to school

Not all news about this schoolyear is bad… Maybe I should have told you these good news first, but anyhow, here’s something to brighten your day if you’re on your way to school, or having your lunch period.

Batanes school kids meet Frodo. Thanks to a repository of libary books that local education officials in Batanes opened last week, students of the the far-flung schools in Batanes will have the chance to read the “Lord of the Rings” Trilogy and many other books and encyclopedia. The repository called Library Hubs, a project of the local Department of Education office, will circulate more than 28,000 books that’s definitely going to help improve reading proficency and the love for reading in these students. Now, this is good news.

5-year-old whiz kid ready for school. “ADI” MARONILLA JR has an IQ of 144, started reading and speaking in English at age 2, began writing a year later, and now already knows his math like a second grader would. Found to be a genius after “dropping out” of grade 1 at age 4,  Adi will continue schooling at the Headway School for Giftedness in classes that read like a high school curriculum (like say, Communication Arts, Civics and Culture, Science, Math, English, Filipino, Values Education and Computer Education, Theater, Creative Writing and Arts Classes). Says Adi to others who consider this wonder child as a welcome breeze and good news, “Don’t call me a genius. This is just a gift from God. We don’t know everything, only God knows everything.” Now, this is a really good news.

Our country needs this kind of news— very inspirational. I would like to ask your permission to copy some information and cite you in an English book that I’m writing.

    Thank you.

Hi! Thanks for the kind mention of Headway School for Giftedness here. As to Adi, he’s doing great in school. Keep up the good work Adi!

To Ms.Tadena, our students move on to greater things after they graduate. Our program puts more emphasis on asynchronous learning than on the initial identification of giftedness or even potential giftedness.

We focus on the strengths and the interest of the learners and work on their particular difficulties. Some students who start out early on with learning delays even move up over the years to qualify for admission at Science High Schools and the Philippine High School for the Arts.

I hope this post helps. By the way, here’s another phone number: (+632)4267739.

    Best,

    Joel Yuvienco
