Two cups o’ coffee: Obsessing over the NBA, 2
Welcome again to ‘Two Cups o’ Coffee’, our own series of interviews where we casually chat with bloggers over a good cup of coffee, albeit imaginary, and exchange stories and ideas, pick brains or just get some “face”-time in the blogosphere.
This is part 2 of our interview with Angelo Fernandez of NBA Obsessed, a b5media fellow blogger who also happens to be one of our “kababayans”.
Filipina Soul: Angelo, thanks for taking time with us, so now let’s get on and ask you about our culture. You lived in the Philippines all your life, right? What is the aspect of filipino culture that is closest to your heart?
Angelo Fernandez: I guess our emphasis on the family is what’s closest to my heart. Whenever I see the culture of other countries with all the divorces, broken marriages abortions and even how a lot of families aren’t really that close, sometimes I feel sad inside. I’m really surprised how normal it is for someone to be kicked out of the house come college time or how parents are put into retirement homes when they’re old.
I spent my whole life close to even my cousins and my grandparents, like other Filipinos, and it’s not something I would expect to see very often abroad.
FS: What would you say to someone who wants to visit the philippines? how would you entice them to give the islands a try?
AF: What better experience for tourists in the Philippines than to get a taste of our culture. The beaches and resorts, historical landmarks, the food, the beer (SMB mmmm), the women err.. never mind.
FS: (smile) Any local spots you’d recommend for someone visiting your town or province?
AF: I’m not the best person to ask but since you’re asking I guess the best spot to visit here in Metro Manila would be the urban paradise of Makati with all the cool places like Greenbelt, the eating places, coffee shops and the widespread wifi accessibility. I guess this is the geek paradise. I come from Paranaque but Makati is a much better place for tourists. But Metro Manila is really not the place for tourists who would rather have the beach scene. (LOL)
FS: What else keeps you busy when you’re not blogging?
AF: I’m almost finished reading all 7 books of the Chronicles of Narnia, and by the time you blog about me I’m done for sure. I’m also playing NBA Live 2006 and eagerly awaiting the 2007 one. I have also recently taken interest in detective type shows, especially those that have forensics involved. So I enjoy watching the 3 CSI shows and also the shows on Discovery Channel similar to it (New Detectives etc).
FS: Great! Well, we hope you much success at b5media, and thanks so much for letting us pick your brains.
AF: Thanks again for taking interest in me
FS: That’s it, folks. Check out Angelo at NBA Obsessed, and his personal blog, the babbling introvert.
