Paramount’s Barnyard showcases Filipino animators
It’s not unknown in the Philippines that we have a great set of talents working the US animation industry. One of those names is Garilandy “Gorio” Vicuna. His resume include Dreamworks’ Prince of Egypt and Adam Sandler’s Eight Crazy Nights for Warner Brothers, Anastasia, Bartok the Magnificent and Titan A. E. His latest include Paramount Pictures’ currently-showing animation film Barnyard.
And apparently, three other Filipinos, and a Chinese, worked with him on the storyboard for one year. They took care of the location and props while the Chinese artist put the colors. Gorio came up with the thumbnail of rough version of the film.
The result for Barnyard? “speeding motorycles weaving its way under equally-restless clouds; animated farm animals, visual effects consisting of snow, clouds, the works”.
What’s he up to, next? Another animation for the major Hollywood producer? Actually, says Gorio -
“I’m not accepting offers to work for Hollywood films first so I can finish Pishbols. It’s a sacrifice. But if I don’t finish Pishbols, I will never be happy.”
PISHBOLS… it’s a modern-day superhero dressed as a humble fishball vendor in the streets of Manila. Gorio hopes it becomes the first Pinoy animated series to make it on the small screen.
From Barnyard to Pishbols. Can’t wait to see both!
