ABS-CBN’s Wowowee
On Christmas Day, after a bountiful feast for lunch, I watched the ABS-CBN show Wowowee with my in-laws. If you’ve seen this show hosted by Willie Revillame, you know that its whole point is to give money away.
Such is the generosity of the show’s donors that people are in line to get into it for days on end. For some, it’s the only way they can see to get out of poverty.
Where does the money come from?
From what I understand, there are corporate donors who give millions of pesos in cash, as well as house-and-lot packages, tricycles, mini-grocery stores and a whole lot more. There are also the generous balikbayan members of the audience. These countrymen of ours who come home from abroad to visit their families are seated in a special section of the show. I believe they pay an entrance fee for the privilege of being an arm’s length from the action. (If you’re interested in being among them, my sister-in-law said that you should call your travel agent to arrange for an appointment or ticket. This is not the official word, so if you know this to be right or wrong, do tell us.)
In addition to the entrance fee, the balikbayan group is also encouraged to donate cash for the chance to be seen by and greet family and friends on TV. Lots of dollars get fanned around and collected during this part of the show. You may think it’s too much to pay for the pagbati, but this money is really given away to the less fortunate members of the audience.
So, back to the show… participants can win money through any number of ways. They have bigatin contests. Money is also handed out whenever Willie asks the audience if they think he’s handsome (you have to give the right answer before he’ll give you any cash 
).
The highlight of the show is the Pera O Bayong give-away. It’s like the U.S. show “Deal or No Deal”. The contestant picks one bayong and Willie offers him/her a growing amount of cash in exchange for it. The choice is over the sure cash or the uncertainty of the bayong, which may or may not contain millions of pesos and/or other fabulous prizes. It could contain toothpicks or toilet paper, but that’s the whole point of suspense.
As I mentioned, I saw the Christmas episode. The dear woman who picked the bayong gave in when offered P100,000 (roughly $2,000). The contents of the bayong? One million pesos. I wish, and Willie did say, that she could have guessed that it being Christmas, there would certainly be a grand prize in the bayong, regardless of which bayong it is. Oh, well, she went home with a lot of money nonetheless. And there was even a bonus, as every member of the audience got a gift basket from the show.

Marami nga pong nag-aantay sa biga-ten portion nyo na mga Lady Tricycle Drivers ages 40-50 years old, I think they deserve to play naman po..marami po kasing nag aanatay…I hope po na makarating po sa inyo ang request naming ito..

Willie, isa ako sa mga masugid mong tagapanood at tagahanga. I watch Wowowee everyday at twice a day pa. Hindi lang ako kundi lahat ng pamilya ko dito sa California. Kami ay KAPAMILYA nyo. Salamat at may isang katulad mo na maraming napapasaya lalo na sa katulad namin na homesick na homesick. Pero kapag nanonood na kami ng Wowowee nawawala ang homesick namin. Salamat sa ABS-CBN sa programang Wowowee. Salamat at binigyan ka nila ng chance Willie na mag host ng Wowowee. Ibang iba ka mag host kasi buhay na buhay hindi boring. Kung wala ang Wowowee walang Willie Revillame na natutulungan at napapasayang maraming tao. Salamat din sa mga donors or sponsors ng Wowowee dahil kung wala sila walang premyo o matutulungang tao. Totoo ang laging sinasabi ni Willie na instrumento lang sya. Ang Wowowee ang intrumento ng mga donors or sponsors at si Willie ang instrumento ng Wowowee. Para sa akin si Willie ang instrumento ng mahal nating “Panginoong Diyos” sa mga taong kinakailangang tulungan. Salamat din sa TFC Subscribers sa mga tulong nila. Sana magpatuloy pa ang pagtulong kasi malaking tulong din ang cash na naibibigay hindi lang sa mga taong naglalaro sa Wowowee pati na rin sa mga pamilyang kapos sa financial para sa pagpapagamot o pambili ng gamot pati na rin sa mga senior citizen na inabandona ng pamilya or I would say homeless. Maraming salamat sa lahat na bumubuo ng Wowowee at nagbibigay tulong. Magpatuloy tuloy pa ang Wowowee. Sa mga co-hosts ni Willie na sila Mariel at Roxanne, keep up the good work. Bumalik na ba si Janelle? Sana bumalik o pabalikin na siya. Gusto ko silang tatlo na magkakasama kasi natural ang mga kilos nila. Lalo na si Mariel, she makes me laugh. I would like to say na gusto kong sabihin sa stars ng ABS-CBN ay they all act and even talk professionally kaya naiiba ang ABS-CBN. Sa Wowowee naiiba rin kayo kasi masayang masaya ang programa nyo, hindin boring panoorin. Gaya ng sabi ni Miss Dina Bonnevie “totoong totoo”. Kay Miss Ana Feliciano, okey na okey ang pagpili mo ng dancers kasi kahit sexy ang sinasayaw nila ay hindi sila malaswang tingnan kung sumayaw. Saludo ako sa’yo Miss Ana and keep up the good work. Sa couturier ng mga damit saludo rin ako kasi hindi baduy. Pati ang mga kulay ay magaganda. Well, sa inyong lahat “may our almighty God the Father shower you all more blessings” para marami pa kayong matulungan na kababayan natin at mapasayang tao hindi lang sa Pilipinas pat sa buong mundo.

May mga foreigners kayong sinasali sa “Biga10″ pero most of the time ay wala kayong translation sa mga tagalog questions ninyo and tinatawag pa ninyo si Bentong para i-translate ang tanong. Huwag na sana kayong kumuha nang mga hindi nakakaintindi nang tagalog . You look silly and niloloko lang ninyo ang sarili ninyo. And kapag nanalo ang foreign contestant, binibigyan pa ninyo sila nang guilt feeling. Kailangan maging fair kayo. Hindi ba ninyo kayang gumawa nang paraan para hindi nagkakagago so Willy magtranslate nang mga questions ninyo?

I watch wowowee everyday, I’ll still love it even though I’m little bit and my family also because they remove Milagring in POB, since then they put her Paksiw that we think is not fit on her. We like to see her back with Luninining instead of Mariposa. We love them here in California USA. So please put her back more explosure for her.

My comment is I just want to say i’m loving the new Pasalog girls. But Iwould like to see Milagring & Luningning do it together. For your information we rather see them together here in TFC. Specially here in San Diego mmy family and freinds are crazy about them. So willie if you reading these please grant our wish. More power to you. Willie talked so much on the show…..can someone remind him that his there not to do a talkshow if he wants to say something he can go to “yes Magazine” there he can talk as long as he wants. Nung nawalan ng show sa abs cbn nagsumiksik sa GMA7 nag guess pa sa eat bulaga. Kaya nga nagcompose siya ng kantang pitopito thinking bibigyan siya show sa GMA 7. Antay pa kayo another stampede sa show! Mga bulag!

I always watch the
Wowowie program. Your program really help the people over there in the Philippines and at the same time you give happiness to the other people. You know its like a theraphy to me. I have to be in the house before 6pm here in LA so that I can watch Wowowie. But this evening, February 7, I was so sad because walang napanalunan si Sacristan Fausto sa Bigatin. I noticed that ang mga kalaban nya ay halos mga adult. I think it would be fair if the 10 bigatin is with the same level or age of the tigasin. This is just a suggestion. And one more thing I likewise noticed that the prize for the bigatin is so high, hindi naman sila pumila. And then the 6 contestant took time to make pila a day before the show pero 5T lang ang ibinibigay. I think they deserve to get the higher prize than the bigatin. Again, this is just a comment and

i just started to watch wowowee and i enjoyed the show, i like to watch Lara ,so is so reserve and very regal on her bearing ,sometimes i noticed that there is some kind of ignoring her on the show, with the host, Willie Revillame this is not good he should be fair to everybody that is just work, the host makes the show very lively which i appreciate, but do not put somebody behind like she does not exist, just treat everyone of your co-worker fairly, life is a wheel you maybe up today, tomorrow you maybe down.

Last week, ang mga contestant sa wowowee eh mga valedictorian students. willie revillame asked these honor students what they are planning to take when they go to college. The first girl said, “Nursing pappy”.
Willie Revilamme was all AWS and WOWs to her. So is the audience. Parang everyone is thinking na it was the best choice. And I have no problem about that, eh un ang gusto nila. atmarami rin akong kaibigang nurses.
Then, ung next contestant, tinanong din ni Willie. Sabi nung contestant, “Pharmacy po”. And guess what WIllie said in reply to that. Ang sabi nya, “BAKIT IHA, GUSTO MOMAGBENTA NG GAMOT SA MERCURY DRUG?”
Everybody was laughing. Willie thenf ollowed up his statement and said “OR GUSTO MO PUMUNTA SA MGA DUKTOR, PARANGDOOR TO DOOR, PARA MAGBENTA NG GAMOT?”. Clearly, he is making fun of our profession.
Of course, one should not expect so much from willie. I just felt that for as long as people like him are not enlightened, we will remained as GLORIFIED SALESMEN/SALESLADY as they thought we are.
Many people don’t realize that even their mouthwash are prepared, analyzed and designed by pharmacist. That when they are hospitalized, the mere responsibility of the nurses is to administer drugs – that there are
other people that they do not see, who also helps to provide them the cure they are longing. That we earned just above the minimum but we are over educated people whose knowledge is under utilized by the conception of
patients that we are just but salesmen. That we are professionals and yet nobody knows that.
In college, halos lahat ng premed courses eh na touch ng curriculum natin. Zoology and botany – BS BIO,Microbio – BS MEDTECH, Health Care (AHSE) – BS NURSING. So parang natikman na rin natin lahat ng premed courses plus ung mga subject na exclusive saten. At ndi biro ang course naten. Sobrang ndi,pharmacology pa lang balde balding d
dugo na lumabas sa ilong ko.
The heck. Although at least our tv exposure is not limited to selling drugs. hehehe, in a soap opera of ABS-CBN, LOBO, one character is a pharmacist and no, he doesnt work in a drugstore. Im thinking he is actually
designing something of a drug para mawala pagka lobo ni angel.
To answer your question, no I don’t mind being called PHARMACIST LANG tayo. I am hurt but I dont mind. Mind over Matter, if you dont mind then it should not matter. haha. they have all the right to think of us that way.
Kung salesman lang tingin nila, no problem. Its not their fault they lack the knowledge. WHAT TO DO? Let’s do our share of work and prove them wrong. Do ourself justice. Kasi kung ano man ang preception nila, at some
extent, tayo din ang may gawa nun.
I am a pharmacist, I am not rich. But hey, being a pharmacist is not a job, a lucrative job at that. It’s a profession. A calling. I may not be earning the 18 thou a month these callcenter agents are getting but I am happy. Believe me, kahit sa internship, there is a feeling of self gratification when you dispense(or aid to dispense) a drug knowing that it was carefully checked and known to be correct and that in a few minutes from now, it will lessen
the illness of someone out there.
I just hoped na with what Willie has done to the poor girl in his show, it will not affect the decision of the
girl to take Pharmacy in college. It’s a great course giving you so much power, making you an unsung hero but yes,
will not make you that much rich unless you practice abroad— its the 2nd highest paid profession (next sa doctor.)
willie,i read this message from the friendster bulletin which a friend of mine posted. I am a pharmacist and so as my friend who posted this and the person who wrote this. obviously, we are not happy about what you have done to that girl’s dream and most of all to our profession. it hurts us much to hear from somebody who many of us pharmacist love to see on tv. i watch your show everyday, even my 1 y/o kid loves your show. but after what you’ve said to that girl. i am disappointed. we pharmacist work our brains out just to work on almost all the stuff that you guys use in your everyday lives. kahit toothpaste mo kami ang gumagawa nyan. how can you say such things like that?! WE ARE NOT JUST PHARMACIST. we are not just some saleman/woman who sells you the medicines. bakit sino ba ang gumagawa ng pau de arco? ng liveraid? ng vaseline? ng joel cruz line? and the products alike? hindi ba kaming mga pharmacist. halos lahat ng mga gamot, cosmetics etc, mga pharmacist yata ang gumagawa. kahit itanong mo pa sa mga malalaking drug company yan at sa mga sponsors mo. d ka makakapagbukas ng botika, drug (medicine) laboratory and hospital pharmacy kung walang pharmacists.

Last week, ang mga contestant sa wowowee eh mga valedictorian students. willie revillame asked these honor students what they are planning to take when they go to college. The first girl said, “Nursing pappy”.
Willie Revilamme was all AWS and WOWs to her. So is the audience. Parang everyone is thinking na it was the best choice. And I have no problem about that, eh un ang gusto nila. atmarami rin akong kaibigang nurses.
Then, ung next contestant, tinanong din ni Willie. Sabi nung contestant, “Pharmacy po”. And guess what WIllie said in reply to that. Ang sabi nya, “BAKIT IHA, GUSTO MOMAGBENTA NG GAMOT SA MERCURY DRUG?”
Everybody was laughing. Willie thenf ollowed up his statement and said “OR GUSTO MO PUMUNTA SA MGA DUKTOR, PARANGDOOR TO DOOR, PARA MAGBENTA NG GAMOT?”. Clearly, he is making fun of our profession.
Of course, one should not expect so much from willie. I just felt that for as long as people like him are not enlightened, we will remained as GLORIFIED SALESMEN/SALESLADY as they thought we are.
Many people don’t realize that even their mouthwash are prepared, analyzed and designed by pharmacist. That when they are hospitalized, the mere responsibility of the nurses is to administer drugs – that there are
other people that they do not see, who also helps to provide them the cure they are longing. That we earned just above the minimum but we are over educated people whose knowledge is under utilized by the conception of
patients that we are just but salesmen. That we are professionals and yet nobody knows that.
In college, halos lahat ng premed courses eh na touch ng curriculum natin. Zoology and botany – BS BIO,Microbio – BS MEDTECH, Health Care (AHSE) – BS NURSING. So parang natikman na rin natin lahat ng premed courses plus ung mga subject na exclusive saten. At ndi biro ang course naten. Sobrang ndi,pharmacology pa lang balde balding d
dugo na lumabas sa ilong ko.
The heck. Although at least our tv exposure is not limited to selling drugs. hehehe, in a soap opera of ABS-CBN, LOBO, one character is a pharmacist and no, he doesnt work in a drugstore. Im thinking he is actually
designing something of a drug para mawala pagka lobo ni angel.
To answer your question, no I don’t mind being called PHARMACIST LANG tayo. I am hurt but I dont mind. Mind over Matter, if you dont mind then it should not matter. haha. they have all the right to think of us that way.
Kung salesman lang tingin nila, no problem. Its not their fault they lack the knowledge. WHAT TO DO? Let’s do our share of work and prove them wrong. Do ourself justice. Kasi kung ano man ang preception nila, at some
extent, tayo din ang may gawa nun.
I am a pharmacist, I am not rich. But hey, being a pharmacist is not a job, a lucrative job at that. It’s a profession. A calling. I may not be earning the 18 thou a month these callcenter agents are getting but I am happy. Believe me, kahit sa internship, there is a feeling of self gratification when you dispense(or aid to dispense) a drug knowing that it was carefully checked and known to be correct and that in a few minutes from now, it will lessen
the illness of someone out there.
I just hoped na with what Willie has done to the poor girl in his show, it will not affect the decision of the
girl to take Pharmacy in college. It’s a great course giving you so much power, making you an unsung hero but yes,
will not make you that much rich unless you practice abroad— its the 2nd highest paid profession (next sa doctor.)

I am a pharmacist and so as my friend who posted this and the person who wrote this. obviously, we are not happy about what you have done to that girl’s dream and most of all to our profession. it hurts us much to hear from somebody who many of us pharmacist love to see on tv. i watch your show everyday, even my 1 y/o kid loves your show. but after what you’ve said to that girl. i am disappointed. we pharmacist work our brains out just to work on almost all the stuff that you guys use in your everyday lives. kahit toothpaste mo kami ang gumagawa nyan. how can you say such things like that?! hello po gud day to mr. willie, im nova moralidad of taguig, i am one of your million fans who always watch your show…i know napakaraming ng e email sa inyo and i am not sure na mapapansin to ni mr. willie revilliame…i hope so…matagal ko ng pangarap na makapaglaro sa show nyo but unfortunatelly lagi naman akong bigo sa mga sinasalihan ko…i always txted dun sa mga games pra at least bka matsambhan at makasali man lang wel, ayun nabenta ko na ung cel ko ndi pa rin ako naswertehang makasali…my daughter really loves luningning…and she really want to see her in personal, my daughter is only 3 years of age but she is really talented…sna nga minsan mkapunta kami dyan sa studio pra mapagbigyan ko naman ung daughter ko…i hope so…
I watch wowowee everyday and I enjoy so much. To those people who don’t like Willie, stop criticizing him. It’s his work and he has the right to interview his contestants. To those pharmacists attacking Willie, mapaka ikli ang kordon ninyo, haba habaan naman ninyo. If you think that Willie is mayabang well you are more mayabang, para kang sino na nakatapos ng pag aaral. You are so unprofessional.

Alam nyo ksi hndi naman ksi kmi mgre-react kng hndi kareact-react ung snabi n willie. proffesion namin as a pharmacist ang pinag-uusapan dto. Aba sbihin ba naman on national television na kng gs2 naming mgbenta ng gamot o kya mag door-to-door sa mga doktor para mgbenta ng gmot. Obviously, ininsulto nya ang course ng pharmacy. Kung alam lang n willie na ang snasabi nyang mga “NAGBEBENTA” lng ng gamot eh ang mag taong nasa likod kng bkit merong mga gamot para s mga specific n sakit. Kung tutuusin mas alam namin lahat2 tungkol sa gamot kaysa sa mga doktor n yan. Hndi nya din alam n yng liveraide, fitrum, pau liniment at other cosmetic products nya pinopromote nya s TV eh mag pharmacist ang tumutuklas at ngfoformulate. kaya naming gumawa ng sarili naming gamot kng hndi nya alam yun which i expect hndi nya tlga alam. Pero gaya nga ng sbi ng iba, wht would u expect to a person like willie, eh wala ngang pinagaralan. Pero sana lang watch his word dahil maraming nano2od na tao especially mga magulang. Ano na lang ang iisipin nla sa course namen. Bkt Mr. Willie Revillame ano bang karapatan m para batikusin ang course namen to think na wala k namang ntapos. hi there! just want to comment on the issue regarding willie insulting the pharmacy profession (knowing or unknowingly) whatever…i am a pharmacist by profession. And actually after i read about the incident which spread thru our emails 2 wks ago i think, i was really infuriated and deeply saddened by what he said. Maybe he said it out of sheer ignorance since that is all that he knows of our profession. Poor Willie, i pity him. He has very little, and i mean very very little and poor knowledge of our profession, and with that i think he should think first before saying anything to anyone to avoid hurting other people. He is a comedian right but he should also know his boundaries when giving comments to contestants. Surely, his comment doesn’t only apply to the pharmacy profession at that but to all other professions as well.
also, i pity the newly graduated hs student for making fun of her because she wants to take a pharmacy course. i just hope she would be firm with her beliefs and still take the course since there is nothing to be ashamed of.

Wowowee is number 1 for us mothers. We are a group of women na palaging nanonood ng wowowee. Taga Mindanao po kami, specifically sa Iligan. We will be coming over sa Subic para sa aming conference (Handmaids of the Lord po kami). Pagdating namin sa manila after the conference sa Subic gusto po sana naming makapsok sa Wowowee. Kung i allow po kami. We are about 50 women from Iligan City, Mindanao, and we want to experience how it is to be at Wowowee and gusto naming makita na personal si Willy. We are women ages from 40 to 80 yrs of age. Mga single parents, elderly women po kami. We hope and pray na papasukin kami. Ang gusto sana namin na date ay sa April 21, 2008. First and for most I want to congratulate you for the success of Wowowee Show. I’m proud of your show Willie, kasi marami kayong natutulungan na mahihirap nating kababayan. Lagi nga ako naiiyak everytime na may mga kababayan nating sobrang hirap ng buhay nila at nabibigyan ng pag kakataong mag laro sa Wowowee, at pinapalad na manalo. At pinahahanga mo ko ng husto pag pilit mong pina-panalo yung mga matatandang contestant. Meron lang akong mga ibang bagay na di nagugustuhan sa pag uugali mo Willie, na sana wag mong ikakagalit oh ng mga funs ng show mo. Una, yung pag pina pahiya mo yung mga dancers or yung mga katrabaho mo sa show. Sana kung meron kang pangit na commento sa kanila, kausapin mo sila off camera, at hindi sa harap ng camera na kahit papaano nahihiya din sila sa mga sina sabi mo. At pati narin ang ibang contestant mo, minsan ginagawa mo silang katawa tawa. It is not polite or funny to embarrass other people infront of everyone whos watching you all over the world. Minsan napapansin ko pag wala ka sa mood or di kaya may problema ka, ibinabaling mo sa iba ang init ng ulo mo. Hindi ka ganap na magaling na host kung ganyan ang ugali mo. Bilib ako sa pag mamahal mo sa mga kababayan nating mahihirap at kapuspalad, pero sana lang wag mong abusuhin ang pag kasikat mo ngayun. I never missed not one wowowee shows,here in Kansas,USA.As fun as it is,we don’t think he’s degrading his co-workers or dancers.He just made everyone enjoy and happy! No one can compare Wellie as host.We tried to subscribed GMA we can’t even handle to kept in a week,that’s how boring it was! Wellie as a host of WoWoWee is perfect.Don’t be looking what’s Wellie’s mood,no matter what mood he’s in He never gets boring handling the show.Wellie always number 1.
Hey Elsie! I love Willie Ok! I admire him for what he does for making people happy and for making me laugh everytime I watch Wowowee. But I am entitled to give my own opinions like other viewers. I’ve been a TFC subscriber since Willie started hosting at ABS-CBN. I know what he’ve been through to get were his at right now. All I’m saying its not nice to embarrass other people infront of the camera and he should be more professional. Would you like someone to tell you that your not doing your job well and you’ve been paid to do your job infront of everyone and all over the world??? And the dacers always being told she is not doing well dancing and she may go. It is more professional if he will tell them those things behind the camera or after the show. Hi Kuya Willie after 7 years of not going home for vacation to the Philippines I miss a lot of beautiful shows and when I had my vacation I always watch wowowee. Didn’t even bother going out and if i did i be sure to be back by the time of your show.The show always put a big smile on my face even my 4 year old little boy had a great watching it and doing the dances.I am in bermuda and hopefully you will come and do a show in here. We are quite a lot of Filipinas working here as well as married to Bermudians. Anyway just a thought how do i be able to watch wowowee while I’m in Bermuda? I would love to subscribe or be a member. Sir, please use microphone just like Mister Edu Manzano and Ms Kris Aquino’s using. It is better to use that kind of microphone to prevent you from getting bacteria or micro organism from other people specially when you let them used your mic or share it to others. I have been watching your show since the beginning and I am worried each time you were not able to host it or you got sick. Please and kindly have an attention to what I suggested. We don’t know if what micro organism you will catch from other people.And I am not joking,Sir. It is for you own health.Protect your self from getting harm or getting sick because in doing so you make least fortunate people happy all over the world. We love you and respect you.

Piolo and Angel ang tanong is kung mammal ba ang whale shark oo o hindi?and Angel said that the answer is hindi i think they should correct it cause the answer should have been oo cause the whale shark is in fact the largest mammal on earth. I believe that its unfair to those contestant that answered oo na natalo n dapat hindi and maraming nanonood na mga bata they would get the wrong information dahil dun.The writers of the show should research more cause the people watching the show would get the wrong information.

I have always watched your program knowing you are bringing happiness to milions of kababayan, however, there have many instances where you displayed your arrogance in dealing with your crew especially your asf dancers so with your contestants. At the same time, you have been disrepectfull to our GOD-our LORD JESUS CHRIST where you always stopped people expressing their belief I know its a private company but you coulld always be sensitive to the feelings of others other than being rude and insensitive.
Mukhang nakalimot ka na Willie sa pinagalingan mo, let your feet be grounded on the floor. Its a long way to go Willie, never forget where you came from cause it behooves you be on guard on any signs of arrogance.
