Other athletes kick butts at the Asian Games
After everything was counted, the Philippines took home 4 gold, 6 silver and 9 bronze medals at the 15th Asian Games. We ranked 18, sure, but I find no sense counting medals against other Asian countries.
We have athletes who won. Dang, we have athletes who can play! And I am proud of them for working their skin off to bring honor to our country. With the meager resources we put into national sports, the beaurocracy and politicking that goes behind it, we have Filipinos who work even harder to show how well they can play.
I often wonder what goes inside an athletes head as he preps for major competition that could put his nation’s flag on the stand. I bet every ounce of strength and concentration is poured out. Sure, the goal of every athlete is to win over something/somebody. After all, people may remember who won or who lost, but the athlete himself remembers just how much he’s put in, and to do one’s best is excellence in itself.
