The Philippine Department of Health has mandated stricter inspections of travelers entering the Philippines through the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA). These inspections, which are complement the thermal scanners which are already in place, are designed to prevent the entry of bird flu into the country.

It seems that there’s a rush for mning rights in some parts of the Philippines. Several mining firms have applied for permits to explore and possibly dig for valuable ore deposits:

On Thursday, Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Angelo Reyes said Anglo American was one of five large firms joining the rush to dig up the country’s unexplored mineral wealth.
Reyes identified the four others as BHP Billiton, Xstrata, Canada’s Chemical Vapour Metal Refining Inc and Phelps Dodge.
The Philippine government has said the country has $1 trillion worth of unexplored gold, copper, nickel and zinc.

Award winning Indie film “ICU Bed #7″ showing at Galleria.

The Cinemalaya award-winning independent film “ICU Bed #7” will finally get its much-deserved exposure.

The film will be shown at the Robinson’s Galleria starting January 31 to February 6. Director Rica Arevalo was handed the Cinemalaya Best Direction trophy while the film’s lead star Eddie Garcia received the Best Actor recognition. It also won the Don Carlos Palanca award for literature.
