Is Freedom of the Philippine Press Under Attack?

Global Voices is painting a disturbing image akin to what was seen during the Marcos era, in terms of the freedom of the Philippine press. Several newspapers and organizations report the acts that the current government and its associates have committed against journalists and media groups. Specifically highlighted is First Gentleman, Jose Miguel Arroyo, who is said to use libel cases “to intimidate and silence the press” with regard to unfavorable coverage of his activities.

Say it isn’t so.

Much has been sacrificed in the past for us to enjoy this particular liberty. It is a hard-earned freedom. To lose it once more could plunge the country into depths of despair and hopelessness.

    gud day!!! I’m a journalism student of West Visayas State University. YES! I am afraid that those things will be realized. I am soon to be a future Jounalist, I will not let this things come my way. we should fight our freedom.. we should do what we think is right. we should be brave fellow journalists… Do’nt let them manipulate you… GO ON with your work.. You are our predecessors… How can we youth be brave if our predecessors were not?
