The longest firecracker belt is found in Dagupan, Pangasinan
It’s the 15th annual tradition in barangay Poco Grande, to light the longest Judas’ belt’ to welcome in the new year in what is locally known as “Balon Kaagupan” (New Noon).
Each year, residents donate unsold firecrackers and thread them up along the main barangay road. The longest Judas belt is lit at the strike of 12 noon on January 1.
Onlookers chose to cover their ears while others joined the shouting when the starting firecracker is lit. The resulting thunderous sound and rapid blasts lasts for almost an hour.
Barangay Poco Grande is definitely a place to go for the next year. It is one of the top producers of firecrackers in the country, in a country where firecrackers can be bought and lit any place there’s space.
