Bill to Give Full Benefits to Filipino Veterans
More good news is in store for Filipino veterans of World War II. In addition to the reunification bill pushed by U.S. Sen. Daniel Akaka, the Filipino Veterans Equity Act of 2007, if passed, will increase pension benefits for veterans.
Although more than 200,000 Filipinos fought in the U.S. military during World War II, the foreign-born soldiers were denied full veterans’ benefits by a law passed a few months after the Japanese surrender.
Today, the surviving vets and their kin are still pushing for equitable treatment by a government that conscripted them and occupied their country for most of the first half of the 20th century.
A recent House bill could finally make amends for the 61-year oversight. Backed by Speaker Nancy Pelosi and state Sen. Leland Yee, the Filipino Veterans Equity Act of 2007 would reverse the Rescission Act of 1946, which left so many fighters with so few rewards.

I would like to inquire about the WWII Veterans’ Equity Bill, since it was already approved, I would like to know if there are any benefits for us children. My father died on 2006. I will appreciate very much if you can comment or tell us any information. Thank you, good day and God bless!!!
My mom who is now 84 y.o was receiving pension from the Phil. gov’t. as a beneficiary of my DAD who died in 1996. He was a retired army and served as an army during WWII- then retired and worked as a private Filipino citizen and contributed to the SSI and eventually retired for the second time. Recently the gov’t just notified my mom that they are discontinuing her pension because my DAD who has been deceased for about 12 years now was a US citizen. He came to the US and died as US citizen. This was one of the benefits that he took for serving the Phil and US during WWII. My DAD never received any money from US. My mom a Filipino citizen 84. y.o. who lives with my sister no income can’t work and on some medications for old age condition and has to meet basic needs of course like anybody now would not have any pension from the go’vt (not very big amount – not even enough to pay the doctor’s bills and regular check up) will not have anything and their reason for discontinuin the pension is because my DAD was a US citrizen. Something is really wrong here. Please investigate and address this issue.
My father is a naturalized WWII Filipino Veteran, he died last 2006 while waiting for the bill that would reward the Filipino veterans. We would like to know if there is a benefit due to us (sons and daughters) since he is already dead and if i am still qualifed for a visa (my petition was approved last March 1994). Please make a comment at my e-mail, thank you and God bless

Hi! My grandfather (my Mom’s father) was a US veteran and became a US citizen. Before he died in 1997, he applied to petition my Mom which we didn’t know if was approved or not. My Mom has 3 sisters and a brother. My grandmother is still living and sick. She’s already 92yo. My questions are, can my grandmother and her children claim any benefits? Would it still be possible for my Mom’s petition to be approved? Please email me the answers. Thank you and God bless.
