Inihaw na pusit. Succulent, sweet and grilled to perfection.
Haay. I’ve craved this for the past seven years.. Not that I can’t find this in the US, but there’s something nostalgic about eating grilled squid with soysauce and vinegar combo, hot rice, and served on a banana leaf.
Finally… Aaah.. *rubbing belly* Busog na.
At Samaral Restaurant in […]

I never thought I’d find a five star hotel tucked in the hills of Los Banos.
The hotel was impeccable and the service was definitely better than even hotels I stayed at in the US. There was a ready smile for us and always a courteous greeting. More than once when I asked the kitchen to […]

Have you recently been to Los Banos, Laguna ?
Seven years is a long time to be away from the place I love. And of course I expected change. But nothing prepared me for how nice that change was. Los Banos has now become a model place to live. Eveything is so clean and orderly. There […]

(”My Journey Home ” chronicles this balikbayan’s return after 7 long years.)
Well, it wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be. Flying with a toddler for 26 hours, I mean. I followed wise advice and brought a a bag full of cookies, crackers, juices and various toys that kept her occupied. What made it […]

Mangoes, sweet mangoes! They’re everywhere, and yes, I’m having my taste buds pampered with their delectable sweetness.
I’ve also had guyabano (sour sop), small local bananas, green mangoes, star apple (which we had to search for).
I don’t know where I can get young coconut right off the tree, but that’s definitely something I don’t want […]

It’s been a week since we arrived. I feel as though it’s been much longer. So many things have happened. I’ve been to a lot of places, seen many people. My brother is married (!). My kids have adjusted to the time zone, if not the weather.
Last week, our schedule seemed so empty, but […]

Marikina has been gaining reputation as a place that’s on the upward move. I saw this for myself. There are new malls and condominiums. The streets are clean and newly-paved. Evidences of a city that’s gaining economic grounds. I observed a positive attitude among the residents that speaks well of the local government.
One of the […]

Another must-visit food place for us is Chowking. Love the food there. Siopao is a must. We’ve ordered the spareribs, pancit canton, sweet and sour pork, and chicken and rice. And still high on my list is their scrumptious halo-halo, which I seem to see on billboards everywhere I go.
The food is slower to […]
