Asteroid Named after Filipino Scientist Roman Kintanar

Asteroid belt

Dr. Roman Kintanar, a former director of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), was honored by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) by putting his name among the stars. “Kintanar” was the name given to an asteroid found between Mars and Jupiter.

The Astronomical League of the Philippines proposed the asteroid’s name to the IAU in recognition of Kintanar’s long service and innumerable contributions to the advancement and modernization of weather forecasting in the Philippines, as well as for inspiring future astronomers.

Congratulations to Dr. Kintanar on getting the honor!
