Manila’s Dancing Traffic Cops
Yesterday, I searched for “manila enforcer” on YouTube when I was looking up Rannie Raymundo’s magic routine. I found Rannie’s cups and balls routine. But I also found these:
This clip is called Manila Traffic Enforcer:
Here’s another one, called Funky Cop; this time it’s set to music.
I don’t know if it’s the same cop. But it’s definitely in the Philippines too (see if you can spot the jeepney!).
Some people say they cause traffic jams and make traffic flow badly. But I think they both did a pretty good job of keeping vehicles moving. I don’t blame him for trying to put some humor and fun into his work. Wouldn’t it be great if we all enjoyed our work as much as they do?

Hi. I think the dancing traffic enforcers do that as part of MMDA’s innovative traffic management strategy. Because heavy traffic can cause one to blow his or her fuse resulting in altercations, MMDA thought that deploying dancing enforcers could help drivers be entertained and not lose their cool. Must be very difficult on the part of the enforcers, though. They must have lots of energy and stamina considering that they are exposed to the sun all the time. And they are so lowly paid, I think. Anyway, to my mind, they are heroes. There’s one such enforcer whose life story was featured on GMA tv, and I liked the guy. He has so little in life but full of love for his family.
I love it!! Would sure liven up a long trip in the car. I wish we had something like that!! I am worse than a kid when it comes to sitting in a car for any length of time!
