Mount Bulusan Spews Ash

Mount Bulusan Spews Ash

Mount Bulusan, which has shown signs of activity since March 2006, has spewed ash, covering areas as far as three miles away.

“We are keeping an eye on some villages in Juban and Irosin town. An ash explosion can occur there anytime,” said Bella Tubianosa from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.

Scientists say that a major eruption is not imminent. However, a 2.5 mile “permanent danger zone” has been established around the volcano.
A history of Mount Bulusan’s activity is available at the Global Volcanism Program. The photo above is of an ash eruption that occurred in June 2006.

Rellenong Manok (Filipino stuffed chicken) recipe

Rellenong manok.
I remember this recipe from barrio fiestas in my mother’s hometown in Bataan. And it’s one of those oh-so-good dishes but oh-so-hard to do! I can’t even remember even having the guts to try making it.
But for those who want to know how it’s done, the Rocky Mountain News (of all sites, too, a non-Filipino website) published this version of Rellenong Manok, or the Filipino version of a stuffed chicken.

For those who are familiar with turducken, this is similar to the first part of the procedure in which the turkey – in this case, the chicken – is deboned …read more

Did terrorists hack a Philippine news agency website?

Did terrorists hack a Philippine news agency website?

In this post-911 age, even a Philippine news agency’s website will not escape from being ‘attacked’ by terrorists.
The Mindanews website www.mindanews.com, a news syndication in southern Philippines, was hacked and defaced by still-unknown person/s/groups.
A message got displayed on the website reading “This site is now under control of the Palestinian hacker” a few days after Minda-news covered the killing of 14 Philippine Marine soldiers and the freeing of an Italian priest held captive by the Abu Sayyaf.
