Dancing Inmates
We’ve seen dancing policemen. Now, even more evidence of the Filipino’s love of music and ability to make the most of any situation, here are the dancing inmates from a prison in Cebu.
The inmates doing “I will follow you” from Sister Act:
Michael Jackson’s Thriller:
A record-setting performance of the Algorithm March:
And my personal favorite, Radio Gaga:
Byron Garcia, who oversees the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC), introduced the dance routines as part of morning exercises in the jail, and also uploaded the videos to YouTube.
Cool, eh?

I loved all the videos and it’s a great idea!!! As long as the inmates are dancing they’re not getting into trouble or mischief. I think they should do that in all the prisons around the world!
This is what I love about the Philippines and Filipino people. The ability to turn even the worst situation into something worth doing.
I vote for videoke machines in every cell.
It definitely beats sitting around, doing nothing but brew trouble.
Don, videoke machines? well, we don’t want people lining up to get into jail, just for those.
i really think this is such a good idea.. good thing there are no KJs there.. im really impressed how a lot of inmates agreed to dance and stuff knowing that not everyone is a dancer.. its really amazing ^^
keep up the good work inmates!! ^^
Something about the videos made me feel proud about being a Filipino. It might be the great spirit of these inmates, or their exuberant participation in such unlikely place, or the brilliance of those who had come up with the idea and made it happen..
Simply brilliant!!! Mabuti naman po at nakikita nating nagkaka-isa sila. Ang galing po nating mga Pilipino!! Mabuhay po kayong lahat.

Being a modeling scout in connecticut, and having friends in prison in Florida, I come into contact with a range of different people. And I myself have been to jail a few times, so I know what its like. And to take someone from a gang, or a murderer, or a rapist, and put them in an environment with music, and Coreography, and have them turn aggression and hate into a passion for music and dance, is just amazing. In the United States, we don’t have anything like that, but we should…
