Mari rushes to Ju Mong with news that the Yeonna army of Buyeo and Han are withdrawing from Jolbon border and Mari happily announces they have done it! Ju Mong goes out and meets Soseono who asks if he’s heard the good news and Ju Mong says it is all the contribution of Soseono, but Soseono says when the Jolbon people were dying so it was but her duty to do what she did. Ju Mong then says she has something to say to her in private and the two move into a courtyard. Ju Mong announces he is asking for her permission for he wishes to help Buyeo, and Soseono is surprised asking why they would help the enemy state. Ju Mong replies he wishes to embrace Buyeo just like they did the other tribes of Jolbon when they were seeking independence. Ju Mong says, Buyeo attacked them but it was all due to King Geumwa’s ambition, but in reality the people of Buyeo are dying of hunger and numbers of migrants are leaving their hometown because of it, and their pain is like theirs, thus if they help Buyeo without any selfish condition then the other tribes and nations will yield to their collective cause as well. Soseono says she understands what he means, but wonders if Geumwa with his pride would accept their help. Ju Mong says he is uncertain about Geumwa but no matter what they still need to help Buyeo people. Soseono says nothing, and Ju Mong tells her he understands it is a difficult decision thus she should think over it for a few days; however Soseono states she will help him persuade her father and Songyang in the matter. Ju Mong smiles and thanks her for following his wish, and next the two inform the trios and Sayong about the plan. Jaesa feels reserved by it saying they may misinterpret it as a trick, but Ju Mong states he knows Geumwa well and he is not someone who will think so. Mari agrees with Ju Mong’s assessment, while Sayong wonders who will go as messenger, saying they have just battled each other thus whoever goes will be in grave danger. Soseono announces she will go, but Ju Mong says that cannot be since if something goes wrong with her then Jolbon will be in disarray. Soseono replies it is better she goes than he, and afterwards Gyepil wonders why Soseono keeps putting herself in danger, saying Daeso is someone who has special discontent with her. Sayong agrees and volunteers to go in lieu of her, but Soseono says unless she or Ju Mong go, Buyeo will not take their offer seriously, and Soseono appears insistent. Gyepil cries out wondering why Soseono is so stubborn and complains what will happen to Ohnjo and Biryu if she is so stubborn, but Sayong says Gyepil should know Soseono is not someone who will easily change her mind once she makes a decision.
Ju Mong sends Soseono off and apologizes for putting such big burden on her, but Soseono says she believes in Ju Mong til the end, and Yeontabal agrees the truth will always be revealed and wishes Soseono a safe trip. Thus Soseono and Sayong leave together, accompanied by her bodyguard. In Buyeo Naro tells Daeso Soseono has arrived, and Daeso is surprised. Daeso goes out to meet her and Soseono greets Daeso who asks why she’s here. Soseono replies she is here to relate Grand Commander Ju Mong’s message. Daeso scoffs her saying their war is not over and she must be here prepared to die. Soseono firmly states she has come prepared for death and asks to speak to Geumwa in person, and Daeso stares at her confidence. Meanwhile, Yangjeong is meeting with Geumwa and he tells him he will return to Hyeonto now. Yangjeong worries about Minister Hwang and warns Geumwa if he doesn’t have Yangjeong then his alliance with Han could be broken, and at this Geumwa says not to worry as he understands what it means. Just then Daeso arrives with news Soseono has arrived. Just then, Soseono gives a bundle to Sayong telling him to give the bundle to Yoohwa while she goes to meet with Geumwa. Songju arrives telling Soseono to go inside to meet with the king, and Sayong asks Songju for permission to meet with Yoohwa. Songju says that is not allowed and Sayong asks Songju to give the bundle of textile to Yoohwa instead then, since Ju Mong has never met his son and he wants to give him something. Sayong pleads Songju to pass it on to Yoohwa, in memory of Ju Mong and Songju’s past fate.
Soseono goes into the Buyeo court, and tells Geumwa Ju Mong feels sorry for the Buyeo people who are starving, and he has not forgotten his debt to Geumwa for raising him all those years. Soseono says Ju Mong’s intention is pure and Soseono asks Geumwa to accept their help. Geumwa states he is one who has attacked Jolbon and if he accepts Jolbon’s help then he will be a laughing stock, but Soseono replies Ju Mong has said in the past Geumwa is a king who puts the people before himself thus the people would commend him for doing what is best for the people. Geumwa says he will think about it, and Soseono then says she has a request from him which is for him to allow Yoohwa, Yesoya and Yuri go. Geumwa appears upset and asks if that is Ju Mong’s condition for helping Buyeo, but Soseono insists Ju Mong had nothing to do with it and it was merely she who came up with the idea. Geumwa wants to hear no more of it and orders her to leave immediately, thus Soseono bows and parts from the court. Next, Daeso and Seolran meet with the queen and the queen asks Daeso why Soseono would risk her life to come to Buyeo palace, and Daeso says he has no idea, but Seolran comments she must have come for Yoohwa and Yesoya. The queen says Ju Mong is not a fool who knows better than to ask for such impossible thing. Daeso agrees with her assessment, and just then Songju asks to come in. Daeso asks Songju what Soseono has come for and Songju replies Soseono offered to help Buyeo by sharing their grains and medicines. The queen wonders what they are scheming and Daeso asks what Geumwa has said about it, and Songju says he has yet to respond. Daeso rushes out to meet with Geumwa, and Daeso tells Geumwa they shouldn’t decline Ju Mong, and rather they could use the offer against him, meaning they can kill Ju Mong during the opportunity. Thus Daeso goes to Soseono and tells her the king wishes to speak to Ju Mong in person, and asks Soseono to go and tell Ju Mong to come to Buyeo himself. Soseono says that cannot happen, and Daeso asks if she doesn’t trust the king, and Soseono firmly states it is not the king whom she doesn’t trust, it is Daeso whom she distrusts. Daeso then asks if she wishes Geumwa to go all the way to Jolbon himself, and Soseono replies he needn’t go all the way there but if he insists on meeting Ju Mong they can meet by a mid-point between the two countries, and Daeso agrees.
Meanwhile, Yesoya informs Yoohwa about Soseono’s arrival in Buyeo palace, and Yoohwa tells her maid to go and find out where Soseono is. The maid leaves and runs into Songju who brings in the bundle to Yoohwa from Soseono, saying it is textile for prince Yuri’s clothing. Yoohwa opens the bundle and the two women tearfully look through the linens. Yoohwa then discovers a map hidden inside one of the lines, and Yoohwa tells Yesoya the map shows the location of a secret pathway to get out from Buyeo palace. Yoohwa’s maid walks pass where Daeso is meeting with the soldiers and she overhears Daeso instructing Naro and the soldiers they must kill Ju Mong when he shows up to meet with Geumwa. Daeso says this is their last chance to get rid of Ju Mong, and the shocked maid rushes back to Yoohwa’s chamber and informs Yoohwa prince Daeso is scheming a plan to kill Ju Mong.
Yoohwa tells Yesoya Daeso wants to kill Ju Mong when Ju Mong goes to meet with the king, thus they need to hurry and escape from the palace in order to inform Ju Mong about this danger. Meanwhile, Minister Hwang tells Yeongpo it is time for him to return to Chang-ahn, and Yeongpo tries to ask him to stay longer. However Minister Hwang says he must go back and report to the imperial about Yangjeong, and Hwang asks Yeongpo to make sure King Geumwa doesn’t change his mind about Buyeo or else their alliance will be broken. Yeongpo says not to worry, but afterwards he confesses in majin if Ju Mong indeed joins hands with Geumwa then things don’t look good for him, and Yeongpo announces he will go with Daeso on his mission. Soseono and Sayong return to Gyeru and Yeontabal asks about their mission. Soseono says the matter is half-successful and she will go into details with Ju Mong. Everyone goes inside, but Hyeopbo remains outside with Sayong and Hyeopbo tells Sayong he was worried sick about him, but Sayong scolds him saying what good can a man accomplish when he worries over such small deed, and Sayong walks off, leaving Hyeopbo wondering aloud what he did wrong when he just showed concern for him, while Mari and Ohyi watch and laugh. Soseono tells Ju Mong about King Geumwa’s message, and Ju Mong is hopeful saying if the king wishes to come out then it means he is leaning on accepting his offer. At this Ju Mong thanks Soseono, and Soseono says not to thank her since Geumwa is just realizing Ju Mong’s sincerity. Soseono then says she secretly passed on the secret passway map to Yoohwa, thus the women and Yuri will surely escape soon and arrive in Jolbon. Ju Mong is surprised to hear this and gazes at Soseono. Back in Buyeo, Daeso goes over his strategy with his men, while Ju Mong and the trio go over their plan in Jolbon. Mari says if Buyeo schemes anything then they could fall into a dangerous trap thus they must be careful. Ohyi says he will go with Moogol first to study their meeting location. Moogol complains why they must endure all this when they are just helping Buyeo, but Mari calms him down saying not to think about that when Ju Mong already made up his mind. Afterwards Ju Mong goes out to the field alone, and he thinks over the words of Soseono, telling him Yoohwa and Yesoya will surely escape soon thus he needn’t worry.
In Buyeo, Yoohwa and her maid are preparing for escape. Under pretense to see the oracle Mawuryeong, Yoohwa goes to the oracle chamber, but Yoohwa stops midpoint and says she forgot a gift for Mawuryeong thus she will hurry and get it, thus Yoohwa leaves the oracle maids. Just then, the king gets a bad feeling and tells Songju he will go and visit Yoohwa. The king arrives by Yoohwa’s chamber and finds out from the guard Yoohwa went to see the oracle. The king says he will go to the oracle chamber instead, and when he arrives, Mawuryeong says she is waiting for Yoohwa to come for shrine, but Yoohwa has not yet shown up. The king is alarmed, and in the underground pathway, Yoohwa tells the fleeing maid and Yesoya that they must know by now their escape thus they need to hurry.
Back in the palace, Songju informs Geumwa they searched everywhere but Yoohwa and Yesoya are missing. Daeso and Naro arrive and Geumwa tells them Yoohwa and Yesoya have escaped, and Geumwa orders Daeso to send troops out to catch them at once. Songju and Naro and a group of palace soldiers all riding on fast horse, as Yoohwa, the maid, and Yesoya escape by foot, with Yesoya carrying Yuri. Meanwhile in Jolbon, the Buwuiyeom comes to see Ju Mong, and Ju Mong tells Buwuiyeom as he promised him before they will assign land to the people of Eumnu, thus Buwuiyeom should go to Eumnu at once to bring the people there to Jolbon. Buwuiyeom thanks Ju Mong wholeheartedly, and says he will serve Ju Mong faithfully in the future. Daylight breaks, and the fleeing Yoohwa and Yesoya are rushing by foot despite their weary, but Yesoya falls down from exhaustion, and Yoohwa goes to her aid and asks her to endure just a longer, saying once they pass the mountain they can get on a boat toward Jolbon. Yesoya says yes, but just then Naro and Songju arrive with their men, and Naro is certain that the women are hiding nearby, thus he orders the soldiers to search everywhere. The women try to hide, but Yoohwa stops them, and says they must separate or else they will all be caught, and Yoohwa orders Yesoya to take Yuri and run the other direction, while she and the maid stay to distract Naro. Yesoya is unwilling, but Yoohwa says she must go since she must keep Yuri alive for Ju Mong. Yesoya is tearful and tells Yuri to greet his grandma, and the young Yuri kneels and bows before Yoohwa with his mother. Yoohwa bids farewell to Yuri, and tells Yesoya she has only given her sorrow, and says she wishes she can give her happiness when they meet again. Yesoya weeps calling out Yoohwa ‘mother’.. and Yoohwa urges her to go at once. Yesoya leaves and Yoohwa tells her maid they must rush off as well. Just then Naro catches sight of Yoohwa and the guards run after Yoohwa and her maid. Naro and the men surround Yoohwa and Naro gets off his horse and tells Yoohwa to give up. Naro asks Yoohwa where Yesoya is and says if they don’t go back together then the king would not forgive her. Naro puts his sword on the maid and asks the maid where Yesoya is. The maid says she doesn’t know, and Naro asks her again saying it’s the last time, and the maid still says she doesn’t know, and Naro slashes the maid’s throat, and the maid falls to her death, with Yoohwa gasping. Naro tells Songju to take Yoohwa back to the palace while he goes to find Yesoya.
While Naro passes by, Yesoya ducks down with Yuri to hide, and just as she is about to stand after Naro passes by, Yesoya loses her foot grip and rolls down the hill and lays unconscious, leaving Yuri crying out for mom. Songju brings Yoohwa back, and Geumwa asks Yoohwa why she is doing this when he has treated her and Yesoya well, with promise that he would send Soya and Yuri to Ju Mong. Yoohwa stares at him and asks him if he means after killing Ju Mong, and Daeso is surprised. Geumwa asks what she means, and Yoohwa asks if he really thinks she wouldn’t know about the king’s scheme to kill Ju Mong when Ju Mong offered to help with sincere heart. Yoohwa asks if Geumwa can stand before the heavens and the people without shame, and Geumwa says he never schemed such; however Yoohwa insists even if he himself did not scheme it he knew that the scheme is going on while he did nothing. Geumwa is furious and Yoohwa tells Geumwa Ju Mong would never attack Buyeo for she would stop him if he ever did, but Geumwa says Ju Mong is one who wants to reclaim the glory of old Joseon and in doing so they are destroying Buyeo. Yoohwa states that is no different than what Haemosu and the damul army did in the past and she wonders if Geumwa only used Haemosu. Geumwa shouts out his fury but Yoohwa tells him she will not trust him and turns to leave. Geumwa orders her to stop and Geumwa draws a sword and goes in front of Yoohwa, warning her he already told her clearly he would keep her by him even if he has to kill her, and tells Yoohwa to turn around at once or else. Yoohwa is tearful but she calmly tells Geumwa to kill her, and that even if her body remains in Buyeo, her soul will to Haemosu and Ju Mong. Yoohwa takes more steps and Geumwa slashes her. Yoohwa falls into Geumwa, with blood streaking down her arm, and Geumwa upon realizing what he has done holds onto Yoohwa appearing startled, calling out his wife. Yoohwa calls Geumwa a pitiful person and at this she stops breathing at last. Geumwa whispers he did wrong and begs her to wake up repeatedly to no avail. Geumwa continues to hold onto the deceased Yoohwa as he shouts out laughter mixed with cries.
Meanwhile, out in the field, a weeping Yuri shakes the fallen Soya to wake her up, and when Soya finally awakes she kisses Yuri to calm him down. Soya tries to carry Yuri to escape again, but she has wounded her ankle from the fall and she limps while trying to hold onto Yuri. Just then imperial Minister Hwang passes by with his soldiers en route to Hyeonto, and while the soldiers are resting they find Soya and the soldiers catch her and Yuri in no time. Soya and Yuri are brought before Minister Hwang who asks who she is. Soya says she is Geum-mi and she is escaping from Buyeo due to starvation. Hwang asks where the child’s father is and Soya replies the father was killed at the border. Minister Hwang orders his men to give Soya food and water and to take them along. Soya begs Hwang to let her go free, but Hwang says no one else will help a woman and a child without father thus he will help them. Soya begs him to let them go, but Hwang orders his men to take them to Hyeonto fortress. Back in Buyeo, Mari informs Ju Mong it is time for them to go and meet with King Geumwa. Ju Mong bids farewell to Yeontabal who tells Soseono to serve Ju Mong well. Just then, Moogol and Ohyi rush in to tell Ju Mong he cannot go meet Geumwa right now. Mari asks why and Ohyi who is tearful states Yoohwa and Yesoya were killed while escaping Buyeo.
