***

Jumong-episode-73aIn Gyeru, Ju Mong states before Soseono, Sayong, and Mari, Jaesa that since they have won their war and rescued the migrants, it is time for them to proclaim their new nation, and gives Sayong, Jaesa and Mari the task of preparing their new nation’s law and statement. Soseono speaks up and says they were able to get this far with the help of people like Sayong, Jaesa and Mari, but once they are a new nation they will need even more skillful help around and says they should look for these people among the tribes they have unified. Ju Mong agrees, and just then Ohyi comes in with news that the chief from Muyeon tribe has come to meet him. Soseono says Muyeon is a tribe that has had a close-tie with Buyeo for a long time, and Sayong says they must have come for help now that Buyeo’s condition has fallen. Ju Mong goes out to meet the chief who asks him to accept their Muyeon tribe. Ju Mong replies if it is so easy for them to turn their backs on Buyeo wouldn’t it be easy for them to give up Jolbon later on, but the chief says they are a tribe that can survive on its own, but their tribal origin is old Joseon, and when they heard that Ju Mong received the sacred objects of old Joseon they came here. Ju Mong apologizes for rushing to judgment and tells Ohyi to welcome the new tribe addition. Meanwhile, Soseono walks through the Goguryeo palace, and remembers Chansoo and Sayong’s words, of urging her to be Goguryeo’s empress. Soseono remembers this and gazes at the palace standing before her. Sayong goes to see Yeontabal and expresses his worry that everyone is now expecting Ju Mong to be king of Goguryeo, when Soseono should be. Sayong draws the analogy that during Han’s Gojo time, Yubang was greatly assisted by his general Jang Ryang, but after Yubang became king, he was so worried that Jang RYang would steal his power he became suspicious of him and thus Jang RYang was vanished from the earth. Yeontabal asks Sayong if he thinks Ju Mong will abandon them, but Sayong says there’s no sure thing to indicate not, and Yeontabal asks what the other tribal chiefs think. Sayong says they think the same as he, since Ju Mong and the Damul are of different make up then Jolbon.

Jumong-episode-73bNext, Sayong reads the old scrolls with Jaesa and Mari, and Jaesa calls attention to an account of Joo Rye book from Ju dynasty which they can follow, but Sayong says in his opinion it is better that they don’t follow the works of Han nation. Jaesa replies just because they are studying the use of enemy’s administration of power and law it is not always a bad thing. Sayong says he concurs but it is best still that they don’t follow the laws or politics of Han since it has many flaws. Sayong shows the account of old Joseon’s power and law administration instead and says it is a simple law of 8 basic rules, and that’s what they should follow for their new nation so they don’t waste energy on complicated laws. Mari agrees, and says just as important is that they must join the power of the emperor with the power of the oracle to balance itself out. Just then, Mookgeo comes in wanting to say something, however he is hesitant while looking at Sayong. Sayong excuses himself, and Mookgeo tells Mari and Jaesa that something is strange about Yangtak and Yeonchaeryeong, and the tribal chiefs seem peculiar as well and they seem to be meeting in secrecy. Jaesa tells him to go find out what it is about in detail while Mari wonders what’s going on.

Jumong-episode-73cIn Buyeo, medicine is brought before King Geumwa by the doctor hired by Seolran. Songju tests if the medicine is poisonous by dipping a silver spoon in, but the spoon comes out clean and Songju tells the king to eat the medicine. Afterwards, Songju’s guard reports to him the new medicine man is hired in by Yang Seolran and Haochen, but there was nothing else strange about it. Songju dismisses the guard and calls the palace doctor. Songju asks the palace doctor if there is some poison that won’t turn the silver color even if it exists, and the palace doctor says there is but you can only get it from Han nation. Seolran’s doctor reports to her the king already took the medicine after Songju tested it first. Seolran says to continue the same in the future and dismisses the doctor. The queen is tearfully worried about Yeongpo’s whereabouts, and just then Daeso shows up. Daeso asks if something is troubling her, and the queen sighs without saying anything. The palace minister tells Daeso Prince Yeongpo has left Buyeo, and Daeso asks why. The queen says she told Yeongpo to leave for fear of running into Daeso, but Daeso says Yeongpo is his blood brother and he wouldn’t kill him no matter how much trouble he has caused. The queen says she knows, but if Yeongpo continued to stay in Buyeo he would be causing more mishap for Daeso in the future thus she sent him away for Daeso. Daeso asks where he went, and the queen says no one is to know but asks Daeso to accept him back warmly when the day comes that Yeongpo returns. Next, Yeongpo and Majin are existing from Buyeo border and Yeongpo sighs as Majin asks where he is headed. Majin asks if they should go to Chang-ahn, and Yeongpo wonders if they would welcome him again after all that has happened. Majin says they can’t expect Chang-ahn to welcome them but if Yeongpo wants to accomplish anything then he should go to a wide land, and thus Yeongpo agrees and they head toward Han’s Chang-ahn. Back in Jolbon, Mookgeo watches from distance as the Gyeru people and Jolbon chiefs meet to scheme something. At night, Chansoo suddenly sees a shadow outside their window as they talk about the future, and Chansoo runs out but the man has already disappeared. Mookgeo returns to Jaesa and Mari, and reports to them Chansoo, Sayong, Yeonchaeryeong and Yangtak were meeting in secret to discuss the matter of who will be Goguryeo’s king. Mari says that is already a done deal with Ju Mong set to be king, but Mookgeo says it seems Soseono has given up the position, but the Gyeru and Jolbon leaders still greed over the throne. Jaesa says this is something he had feared and expected, and next, Ohyi is furious when he learns about it, and states they must stop it before Commander Ju Mong finds out. Mari tells them to calm down, but Mookgol is furious too and says they can’t sit still while Jolbon is ungrateful of their help. Mopalmo speaks on behalf of Soseono and says they can’t forget the help she and Gyeru offered them when they were in trouble. Mari says even so, they can’t be pushed off, and says they have to stop it to put their stance forward.

Jumong-episode-73dNext day, Mopalmo sighs heavily wondering if all their hard work is going down in vein. MuSong says it is their fault that they are changing their mind, but Mopalmo scoffs him for pointing fingers and says this is why the nation is about to be ruined. Next, Mari and Jaesa goes to Ju Mong with the rules they have come up with. Ju Mong thanks them and says he will take it to the tribal chiefs. Jaesa then says there is trouble here with the Gyeru and Jolbon people wanting to put Soseono as king. Mari says they had thought Soseono surrendered that title, but now that they are getting close to the throne they are getting greedy. Jaesa states before they get shortchanged, they should stop them. Ju Mong becomes furious at this, and throws the scroll onto the table. Ju Mong says Damul and Jolbon are sworn brothers of same blood, how ridiculous it is for them to become suspicious of each other for greed over power. Ju Mong says he came here to accomplish General Haemosu’s will of saving the migrants and reviving the glory of old Joseon, that he did not come here for power nor to be king. Jaesa and Mari apologize, but Ju Mong says he is heavily disappointed in them since if they can think these thoughts then everyone else will. Ju Mong tells them he will not worry over whether he or Soseono will be king. Ju Mong says if Soseono can lead Goguryeo to bring back old Joseon’s glory then he and Damul have succeeded. Jaesa and Mari relate Ju Mong’s words to the rest of the trios but Ohyi is still angry and says the other people would not see it that way, and tells Hyeopbo to act clearly and not get himself confused just because of Sayong. Hyeopbo is upset by this and Mari tells everyone to calm and think about it more. Back in Buyeo, the ministers are rumoring about the king’s health and their future. Budeukbul tells them the king’s health is great thus they needn’t worry and tells the ministers not to overreact over false rumors. Just then Songju arrives to speak to Budeukbul in private. Budeukbul is shocked to hear that the king is now eating medicine that is poisonous. Budeukbul then asks who else knows about it, and Songju says no one else. Budeukbul then says not to let anyone else know about it. Next, Budeukbul and Songju go and meet with Daeso, bringing with them a bowl of medicine syrup. Budeukbul asks Daeso to dismiss Naro, and Daeso tells Naro to wait outside. Budeukbul then tells Songju to put the medicine down and leave. Daeso asks what the bowl contains, and Budeukbul states it is the medicine the king is taking. Daeso asks why he’s bringing it here, and Budeukbul says the medicine is poisoned by slow brewing poison, and Daeso is alarmed, asking who is behind it. Budeukbul says Daeso should know it well, and Daeso asks what he means. Budeukbul simply says, whether or not Daeso knows about it, Daeso is the only one who can solve the issue. Daeso thinks over these words, while Seolran is visiting with the Mawuryeong oracle. Seolran tells Mawuryeong she is wrong in saying the king will reign for a long time, and Seolran states soon the throne will be changed. Just then, Haochen arrives telling Seolran Daeso has summoned her.

Jumong-episode-73eSeolran goes out to the courtyard and sees the doctor she hired bound and kneeling. Seolran is alarmed but pretends to be calm and asks Daeso what’s going on. Daeso wonders why she still doesn’t know why he asked to see her when she already saw the doctor. Seolran only calls out Daeso’s title, and Daeso gives Naro the okay and Naro slashes the doctor to death right there and then. Daeso tells Seolran he knows why she did it but he doesn’t want to be a son who kills his own father just to take over power. Seolran says nothing, and Daeso says he will forgive her this once, but if it happens again then he will not forgive her no matter what. Back in Jolbon, the chiefs are meeting with Yeonchaeryeong and Yangtak, as the two urge the chiefs to insist on Soseono to be king of Goguryeo or else it puts their tribes and their Jolbon people in peripheral position since Ju Mong and the Damul are outsiders. Sayong says Damul was only able to find their success because they allowed them to come from Bongae mountain, and Gyepil also joins in to say they have to make their stance clear or else the future of Jolbon people is uncertain. Chansoo says they all think the same, but just then Soseono comes in and scolds them for creating division. Soseono states in order to create a big nation, they need someone like Ju Mong who knows first hand the suffering and pain the people have felt. Yeonchaeryeong asks if Soseono is willing to sacrifice their tribes for it, and Song Yang states it is good to accomplish grand will of reclaiming old Joseon’s glory, he doesn’t want to lose his people over it. Sayong asks Soseono to think twice, and Soseono tells Sayong to stop already. Soseono goes out and thinks over these. Gyepil comes pleading for her and Wootae’s children, and their future if they don’t have a throne to inherit when they have suffered so much losing their father since early on. Soseono goes to see Yeontabal next for advice, and before she speaks Yeontabal says she must be feeling apprehensive. Soseono says she thought if she showed them her sincerity then they would follow but it isn’t so, and asks Yeontabal what she should do. Yeontabal says it is not that the tribe chiefs don’t trust Ju Mong, but rather they are fighting for their power. Soseono says at this rate they will be divided before their nation is built and Yeontabal sighs. In the meantime, the Gyeru folks are frustrated that Soseono isn’t easily persuaded, and Gyepil scoffs Sayong saying if Ju Mong becomes king then he can’t even close his eyes when he dies. Just then Ohyi comes with Hyeopbo and Moogol and Ohyi confronts Gyepil over his words. Hyeopbo says Gyepil shouldn’t say something like that when Ju Mong shed so much blood for Jolbon. Sayong is upset by this and says Jolbon also sacrificed and without their sacrifice, Ju Mong and Damul would not have come this far. Hyeopbo and Sayong yell at each other next, and Moogol comments they are being ungrateful when Damul saved them while they were just dying like dogs. Yangtak is furious and draws his sword toward Moogol who also brings his sword out. Just then Ju Mong comes to stop them, and tells them go ahead and slash each other to death. The men are silenced, and Ju Mong shouts for them to go ahead. Moogol apologizes but Ju Mong tells him to shut up and tells Mari and Jaesa to summon all the chiefs and generals at once.

Jumong-episode-73fIn front of Soseono, the chiefs, and Damul generals, Ju Mong apologizes for failing to teach his subjects. Soseono also apologizes for her group’s actions, and Ju Mong continues to say he will make his stance clear. Ju Mong announces he will not be Goguryeo’s king. Everyone’s shocked, and Ju Mong says in his heart, there are two lingering wills, one from his father Haemosu who fought for the migrants and one from his mother who died while he was in the process of fulfilling the will. Soseono appears saddened by this, while Ju Mong continues and states he did not come this far to greed over power to be king, and as long as he can reclaim their lost land to reclaim their glory then that is enough for him, and he will ride on horse til he dies to complete the will, and he is not made up for leading a nation, and that position is better suited by Soseono and Yeontabal. Soseono says that is not her wish, as she already told him she wants him to be king. Jaesa also states even though they have heard Ju Mong’s words, the throne of king is set by the heavens and it is not something a person can take or give. Mari asks Ju Mong to think about what the heavens want and then to make his decision, but Ju Mong says he has already revealed his will and tells the people not to be divided anymore over the matter. Ju Mong leaves the room, and Soseono follows him. Soseono tells Ju Mong the people in the room are not receiving his or her wish, and at this rate they themselves will become a greater enemy than the Hans. Ju Mong says in order to avoid that, Soseono must agree to his wish, but Soseono says the will of the heaven and the hearts of the people are with Ju Mong instead. Next, Yeontabal goes on a fishing trip and Jaesa and Mari arrive by the river. Yeontabal tells Mari and Jaesa the reason he has asked them to come, is because he believes in Ju Mong and Soseono’s sincerity for giving up the throne to each other, but Mari and Jaesa reply they have to overcome the issue now and later. Yeontabal says a solution is for Ju Mong and Soseono to marry. Mari asks if that is possible, as the two cannot marry just for political reason. However, Yeontabal says that is not so, especially since both Ju Mong and Soseono are alone, and Mari and Jaesa should know that Ju Mong and Soseono have a fate that goes far into the past. Yeontabal says he will persuade Soseono, and asks Jaesa and Mari to persuade Ju Mong, saying this is their only solution at this time.

Jumong-episode-73gIn Han’s Chang-ahn city, Yeongpo arrives and meets with Minister Hwang who are both happy to see each other again after the war. Majin asks Hwang to help Yeongpo now, and Hwang says he will, but he wishes to avenge the shame Ju Mong put on him during the war. Yeongpo says he will help him, and when Hwang says he will soon become Yeodong fort’s governor, Yeongpo asks Hwang to take him with him when he goes as he will serve him. Hwang puts his hand on Yeongpo’s hand and says he will do so, and Yeongpo and Majin are overjoyed as they have a way to survive now. Back in Jolbon, Jaesa and Mari worry as they are about to go and talk to Ju Mong, and Jaesa says they shouldn’t worry as it will go smoothly if that is what the heaven’s want. However Ju Mong tells them to leave even before they are allowed in, and the two go and see Mopalmo next. Mari tells Mopalmo they need his help, and Mopalmo is shocked to hear about the plan to marry Ju Mong and Soseono. Mopalmo says marriage is set by the heavens for people who are fated for each other, and Ju Mong is still grieving over Yesoya and Yuri’s deaths. Mari says he can’t be grieving forever, and he must move forward. Jaesa says Ju Mong won’t even see him, thus they need Mopalmo to help. Yeontabal is also talking to Soseono and Soseono says no one will know Ju Mong’s sorrow over his loss of mother, wife and son, and they can’t force him to marry just to avoid division. Yeontabal says he has long wished Ju Mong and Soseono could join their destiny, and even though they marry to avoid internal division, he believes Soseono can comfort Ju Mong who has wounds in his heart that he cannot express to anyone else. Soseono appears moved by this but she continues to be fretful. Mopalmo goes to see Ju Mong who allows him in, and Mopalmo says he came to pour some wine for Ju Mong, and Ju Mong invites him to sit. The two drink together, and Mopalmo says when they drink like this he is reminded of the past, when Ju Mong stole Geumwa’s wine to bring to Mopalmo asking him to make a sword for him, and Ju Mong ending up getting into big trouble when he was caught. Ju Mong smiles and says if it hadn’t been Mopalmo who believed in him when he was still immature he wouldn’t have come this far. Mopalmo says his life-long sorrow is his guilt over leaving Yoohwa, Yesoya and Yuri behind when he escaped Buyeo palace. Ju Mong says that is not his fault and tells him to forget it. Mopalmo then says Ju Mong is someone who will accomplish big things in the future, and in order to do so, he needs someone next to him to help him, and in his assessment that person is Soseono. Mopalmo urges Ju Mong to marry Soseono, and Ju Mong asks if he is already drunk. Mopalmo replies he is asking with a clear mind, and says there’s another reason for Ju Mong and Soseono to marry, which is that the marriage will stop the threat of division among them, and it is the only solution for Jolbon and Damul to remain one. Ju Mong is speechless, and Mopalmo says he knows well that Ju Mong still has Yesoya and Yuri alive in his heart, but Ju Mong must move on, and Yesoya would want him to marry again. Ju Mong states he understands his words, but he has no intention to do so. Mopalmo pleads saying if they are divided, then the sacrifices of Yoohwa, and Yesoya, and the lives of deceased Damul people will all go in vain and at this Mopalmo weeps, while Ju Mong watches…

Jumong-episode-73hSoseono spends the night thinking over the matter, while Ju Mong goes out to the river alone the next day to contemplate the future. Ju Mong returns and finds Soseono who is standing alone in the courtyard. There, Ju Mong walks up to her and Soseono tells him once Ju Mong proclaims Goguryeo a nation, she will leave with a merchant group for trade. Ju Mong looks at her, and Soseono says since she was a child her father told her to be a merchant who can support a nation and if she can unite the tribes for Ju Mong’s nation then it is just as meaningful to her. Ju Mong replies Soseono is already a merchant who built a nation, and she needn’t leave with merchant group to help her people anymore as she can remain in the palace to do so. Ju Mong then asks Soseono if she will marry him, and Soseono is surprised. Ju Mong says even if they marry it might be difficult for them to revive their past fate which has been long crossed, but if they can marry and together build Goguryeo and pull it to be the strong nation which can stand against Han, then that is perhaps the will of the heaven. Ju Mong then asks Soseono if she will accept his proposal and Soseono with tears filling her eyes says nothing. Meanwhile, Yesoya arrives in Jolbon holding Yuri, and Soya tells her child to hang in there just a little longer as they will soon meet his father. Soya sees many people passing through and she stops a man asking where everyone is going. The man replies today is the day when commander Ju Mong and chief Soseono will proclaim the founding of Goguryeo nation, and furthermore today is when Ju Mong and Soseono wed thus it is the most spectacular day. Soya is shocked and dismayed and tears, while Yuri calls out to his mother. Soya embraces Yuri more and looks toward the Goguryeo palace gate. Next, the sounding of drum is resonated, as Ju Mong and Soseono march down the aisle toward the holy shrine, while the Jolbon and Damul people are gathered to witness inside the Goguryeo palace, among them a weary Yesoya holding Yuri, weeping as she tries to spot out Ju Mong from afar. Ju Mong and Soseono kneel before the shrine and offer their wine to the shrine, before they stand to face each other, then the crowd. Ju Mong tells the gathered, he is king who will, until death, follow the will of the gods with Queen Soseono. Soseono then swears before the citizens that she will serve King Ju Mong who was chosen by the heavens, to reclaim the glory of old Joseon. Yesoya is tearful but smiles and nods through her tears, and she turns to leave holding Yuri. Ju Mong speaks again and tells his people he will accept the direction of the three-legged crow to build Goguryeo into a strong unbeatable nation. The gathered cheers as Soseono looks at Ju Mong.
