A Travelling Carinderia in Miami

irving and truck

If you ever find yourself in the Port of Miami, look around and see if you can spot a restaurant-and-sari-sari on wheels. This rolling carindiria is owned and manned by Irving Matutina. He caters mostly to Filipino crew members taking a break from their work on cruise ships like the Royal Caribbean’s Liberty of the Seas .

The list of dishes he offers rival those from any brick-and-mortar eatery:

Pancit
Pork Adobo
Dinuguan (charmingly called “Pork Chocolate” in this article)
Shrimp
Stir-fried squid
Bangus
Galunggong
Ginisang Mongo
Lumpia
Tortang Talong
Longaniza
Si-si (Sisig?)

In addition to these native dishes, Irving sells a host of Filipino delicacies, as you can see in his truck above. What a business concept that’s so Filipino! I’m sure Irving’s customers appreciate the taste of home that he gives them.

Where: Parking lot of Terminal F at Port of Miami, 1015 N. America Way, Miami.
When: Off-season hours: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday to Sunday.
Menu: All dishes $3, Rice $1.

Iba talaga ang Pinoy. I love how he gives his kababayans a taste of home. Food is always a great happy memory/nostalgia trigger. We need more Irvings around the world so Filipinos abroad can treat themselves with a well-deserved meal of adobo, dinuguan, monggo or lumpia.

Kahit saan, basta may pagkaing Pinoy, laging dinadayo ng mga kababayan natin. :)
