The B5Media network:

ABS-CBN’s digital TV test broadcast a success

Soon, digital television will be coming to a TV near you.

ABS-CBN’s test broadcast of its digital television (DTTV) have been met with more-than-expected reception. Literally. Test audiences loved the resolution so much because “it was like watching an original DVD – it was so clear in terms of picture and color” as one homeowner attested.

Added another, “It was stunning – one time, it started raining, and the image didn’t even flicker. Back when we didn’t have a box, we had to go outside to fix the antenna because the rain affected the reception so much. Now, the reception is clear as crystal, so it’s such a pleasure to stay inside, keep warm and watch TV.”

Viewers also said there were more channels to watch (and flip through) that kids would rather stay indoors and watch TV the whole day. Now, I’m not exactly sure that’s a good thing, but that is the lure of quality TV.

ABS-CBN will begin releasing the DTTV signals in January 2008. Southern Luzon audiences will get the first wave since ABS-CBN’s channel 2 signal is weak in these areas. The signal itself is free of course and does not need subscription or connection to a cable. There is a P2,000 one-time payment for the electronic decoder box to hook up to an antenna and convert signals.
