The Aftermath of the Glorietta Blast

It is still unknown what caused the blast in Glorietta last week. Initially, the cause was thought to be a tank of cooking gas. Then it was a homemade bomb. Now, several days after the explosion, an accidental cause is still on the table.
No conclusive proof of a bomb, like components of an explosive device, has been found. However, diesel and motor tanks have been identified where the explosion occurred. While it would bring a measure of relief if the explosion was an accident instead of a targeted attack, I can’t imagine that conditions were present inside the mall that could cause such a huge explosion. If an accidental cause is conclusively found, questions about safe building and management policies would arise.
More news about the explosion:
* The economy has taken a hit because of the incident. Forbes reports that the Philippine peso dropped 0.4% against the dollar as a direct effect of the blast.
* The list of the dead and injured can be found here. My sister-in-law knew one of those who lost their lives. They used to work in the same office. Our condolences to the families of those affected by this sad event.
* An attempt to plant evidence at the site of the explosion was stopped by police on Sunday night. Details here.
