USA declares Philippines ‘unsafe port of origin’

This is going to turn people away from going to the country. But I can not turn a blind eye on this one either. So here goes –

United States’ Federal Aviation Administration has found the Philippines failed to “to adhere to international standards and recommended practices for aircraft operations and maintenance.”

The FAA found that the Philippines ATO (Air Transportation Office) has no sufficient qualified personnel and equipment, and have regulations that have not been updated since 1952!

The FAA is faulting our Air Transportation Office, and not the individual Philippines air carriers, but still those airlines will be under heightened FAA surveillance when they fly through the USA… wait, there’s only one carrier that flies the US – Philippine Airlines. ouch.

"PAL will be affected … they can no longer have additional flights to the US and whenever their plane lands in the LA (Los Angeles) for instance, there will be an FAA inspection of the aircraft," said the (ousted) ATO officer-in-charge Danilo Dimagiba.

Let this be a wake-up call to the Philippines Transportation Office. If we want our country to be a visitor’s paradise, then we must make sure everyone – guests and balikbayans alike – who use our airlines are ensured of their safety.
