First Gentleman Mike Arroyo Appears in Anti-Corruption Hearing
“Fabricated” and “hearsay” are the words that First Gentleman Mike Arroyo used to describe the accusations of corruption that have been leveled against him. Arroyo has been given until March 25 to formally answer the allegations that he sought to receive 130 million dollars in kickbacks from the aborted Internet broadband deal with ZTE Corp.
Jose Miguel Arroyo sat stone-faced as he faced allegations that he used his influence to help Chinese state firm ZTE Corp. win a 329-million-dollar national Internet broadband deal.
Speaking to journalists after the public hearing, Jose Miguel Arroyo, a lawyer, brushed aside the accusations saying: “They are fabricated. They are all hearsay.”
We’ll watch as the story unfolds. There is much at stake in the issue, as President Gloria Arroyo has had to face calls for her resignation over the scandal. How will Mike Arroyo defend himself? What kind of evidence, if any, exists against him? How will this ultimately affect the Arroyo presidency?
