Anthony Castelo receives US Presidential Award for civic service

Heartthrob of the ’80s, international recording artist, and now US civic leader Anthony Castelo received the “US President’s Volunteer Service Award” last April 27.

I know, it’s a bit of old news but I think this still deserves some mention. I mean, he was honored with one of President Bush’s most prestigious awards for civilians. The award recognizes outstanding efforts of individuals and organizations towards their community and country. Castelo assisted in securing a humanitarian visa for the sister and only living next-of-kin of a US soldier who migrated from Guatemala and died in Iraq.

Castelo had even composed a post 9/11 song “Long Live America” and recently sang it at the White House. He dedicated the song to both America, and shared the honor of the award with all Filipinos around the world.

It’s good to hear stories like this of our fellowmen who serve and love their adoptive countries and yet don’t forget where they came from.

Watch this performance of Anthony Castelo at the White House.
