Should Judy Ann Santos take the heat for Meralco’s dis-informational?

AFTER appearing in an informative commercial of the Manila Electric Company (Meralco), various organizations criticized and called for a boycott of all Judy Ann “Juday” Santos’s films and television projects.” – SunStar

Juday made a commercial explaining the controversial issue on systems loss charges that Meralco recently made. When non-government organizations saw the commercial, they immediately called for a boycott of Judy Ann’s films, saying that the information she said were lies.

I’m not privy to the details of Meralco’s latest charges on the electricity bills. But it is totally unfair to put the blame on the actress for being hired to get those informationals out to the public. What does Judy Ann have to do with getting Meralco to rack up its charges? Nothing. She’s only the bearer of bad news, and getting her “axed” would not hurt the giant.

What would boycotting her films do to change Meralco’s stand? Nothing. In fact, we can boycott all of ABS-CBN and it would not change our electricity bills in any way. Know why? Even if Meralco and ABS-CBN are both owned by the Lopezes, these are two separate independent companies. Putting one out of business would not hurt the other.

So, stop the drama. If Meralco has done us injustice, then seek justice where you get the chance for some real change.

Meralco is trying to use her to try to get their message across to the reach the “masa”. The problem I have with this is that Juday, who is suppose to be an inspiration of the poor marginalized people, is basically the spokesperson to an establishment which is part of an ongoing rehabilitation/overhaul of the Power Industry the objective of which is to bring down power costs and alleviate the peoples’ burden.

Indirectly, she has become an instrument for Meralco to maintain their status quo as the dominant power distribution company in the Philippines through the power and influence of media & showbusiness.

Recently, Juday has also become a spokesperson for woman’s right and advocacy of “paninindigan”. I wonder if she really believes in what she has done as Meralco’s No.1 spokesperson. Could she have traded principles for a hefty Talent Fee?
