"Caregiver" in Israel, a true story
In her new film “Caregiver“, Sharon Cuneta is the teacher-turned-caregiver to an elderly Briton who initially looked down on her. In a scene where she was being harassed, the Filipina caregiver tells her boss, “I love my job, sir,” and then adds tearfully, “I love you.”
Such is the tale that is told of Filipinos who venture as caregivers, or household help abroad: awful stories of abuse, harassment, broken dreams. And yet, there are as many untold stories of triumph, love and friendship, like the one of the Filipino caregiver Nick Esplana and his Israeli employer.
In this story, it is the Israeli Efi Rimon who tells the story of how he found a true friend and inspiration in Nick.
Read it, and know that there are many employers like Efi who love Filipinos because of people like Nick. Read it, and realize that there are many caregivers like Nick who are loved and admired. But read it, and have your hanky with you. You will still end up in tears.
