Filipino Festivals in Toronto
The Philippine Independence Day Council (PIDC) of Toronto, in partnership with ANKOP- Gawad Kalinga , is hosting the Mabuhay Philippines Toronto Summer Festival today, July 19, 2008. Following are the details of the event:

The festival will feature performances by the Philippines Comedy Concert Queen Ai Ai delas Alas, Filipino-Canadian singing group Voices of the Future, Je-an Salas of the National Ballet of Canada, and more. You can view the festival brochure here (pdf). Proceeds from the festival will help Gawad Kalinga in their mission of providing homes for the less fortunate in the Philippines.
Next month, there will be another festival celebrating Philippine culture in Toronto. The “Filipino Making Waves Festival II” will be held on August 15-17, 2008 at the Ontario Place, 955 Lakeshore Boulevard West. This event is a project of Show Philippines Festivals of the Arts and RemitX – GlobalXpress Group. Filipino customs, arts, and products will be showcased at this three-day event. Ramon Torralba, one of the original members of the ’70s band “Hotdog”, will be performing. You can read more about what’s in store for you at next month’s festival at the Inquirer.
