Francis Magalona’s Leukemia Diagnosis Spurs Blood Donor Drive

Master Rapper Francis “Kiko” Magalona has let his leukemia diagnosis be known to his fans and colleagues in the Philippine movie industry. He is on an indefinite leave from his commitments as he focuses on his treatment and recovery.

The announcement was made through text message to Kiko’s Eat Bulaga co-hosts. Vic Sotto was audibly emotional as he read the message in which Francis tells his fans to “watch out for my return”.

Francis made his mark with his debut album “Yo!” in 1990. Since then, he has become a much-respected performer, songwriter and photographer. In announcing his diagnosis, he appealed for privacy, but called for blood donors to help replenish the supply he has used and will be using during his treatment.

Blood donations in Francis Magalona’s name are accepted at The Medical City hospital along Ortigas Avenue in Pasig City. Here are the guidelines for potential blood donors:

* No alcohol must be consumed within 24 hours before the procedure.

* Donors must be healthy, with not even a cold or cough.

* Donors must not be taking any antibiotics and other medication.

* Those with body piercings and tattoos must wait a year after their piercing before donating blood.

* Only donors aged 16 – 60 years old are accepted.

Our best wishes and prayers for your quick recovery, Kiko!

It is really sad that someone so famous and so close to the heart of the Filipinos was reported with this type of sickness.

By the way I found Philippines Blood Registry website, it is a new blood donation web portal with a good cause on helping Filipino people. I hope you support this website, its for Filipinos. Thanks in advance!
