Meeting Filipinos in Las Vegas

I’m sitting here in the kitchen, still bleary-eyed and tired from a 5-day trip to Las Vegas. Though the visit was mainly a work trip for me, the entire family went along for a short vacation as well.
We arrived on Thursday and did some sight-seeing that same day. Friday, Saturday and Sunday, I was off to Blog World Expo, while the hubby so very kindly watched over the 2 kids. I gotta give him kudos for those 3 days. I mean, how many men do you see in Vegas pushing around a double stroller while the wife goes off to meetings? Yep, he’s a rare kind of guy.
During the time when I wasn’t “at work”, we managed to fit in quite a bit of the usual touristy activities. With 2 kids in tow, of course, we kept it very family-friendly. Strolling through the many shopping corridors was a main activity. Bellagio’s dancing fountains were a hit with the kids, as were the lions at MGM and the Mirage.
We met many Filipinos, some of whom work at various establishments and some who were there on vacation like us. With almost 2 million residents in metro Las Vegas and the weather being the warm winter-less type that appeals to many of our countrymen, there were bound to be more than a handful of them around. Most were pretty happy to meet fellow Pinoys, although I got it from the hubby that there was at least one who denied being from the Philippines. Yeah, and he just happened to choose “Philippines” for his nametag “just because he liked it”.
One sighting I’ve never been able to make in Vegas, however, is a Pinoy Elvis. In the land of a thousand Elvis sightings, there should be at least one Filipino Elvis, right? Maybe I just have not seen him yet.
I have more photos to show from the trip, just as soon as I can organize them and so forth. We’d taken a red-eye flight late Monday night, and it just about wiped us out. A couple of hours of sleep on a plane never did anyone much good.
