Survivor Philippines Episode 7: Cooked Clams over Rice

Survivor-philippines-linkSurvivor Philippines is moving along so quickly! Like the original Survivors shows, the Pinoy version is chockfull of exciting challenges, life stories, schemes and even the occasional love angle.

Episode 7 aired on GMA7 on September 23, 2008. In the last episode, the Jarakay tribe won the reward challenge and a flint for making fire. They were sent back to their tribe. Naak stayed behind to have their chance at winning fire for their own tribe.

The Matchstick Challenge

Each member of Naak was given a matchstick to keep between their mouth. They were to stay in the water for 15 minutes and keep the matchstick dry. Whoever could keep their matchstick dry got to bring it back to their camp. In this challenge, those who could float on their backs had an advantage. They were able to bring back 6 matchsticks.

Jarakay got back to their camp and immediately went to work making fire with their flint.

Strategies and Clams

At the Naak camp, the tribe members started to dissect what happened at the reward challenge  that they lost. Cris blamed Kiko for the confusion that ensued during the rowing of the boat. Kiko defended himself, having been a 3-year dragon boat rower. Rob cut in to be the peace-maker and keep the unity in the camp.

Zita’s assessment of the hot-headed discussion was that it was all due to hunger, so she kept her concentration on making fire, and thus cooking. The Naak tribe members eventually postponed further efforts for the next day.

Jarakay finally got a roaring fire going… which finally meant cooked rice and clams!

Marlon talked about having a new strategy, which included almost courting the ladies, whom he planned to use as “weapons”. Abangan…

The episode ended with the Jarakay castaways in high spirits amid the promise of their first real meal in days.

Survivor Philippines Fan Question: Do you think Marlon will succeed in his new strategy?
