Filipinos are Least Fussy Air Travelers

airline-seats-flickr When overseas Filipinos think about flying, they probably think about flying home to the Philippines. For most, this would be a flight that’s at least several hours long. This is the type of flight wherein you could literally lose a calendar day. I would think that the type of seat you get would matter a whole lot.

It turns out that Filipinos are the least fussy when it comes to seating preference. These results came out in a survey conducted by Synovate of more than 10,000 people in 13 countries.

While 2/3 of all respondents (and 89% of Thais) disagreed with the statement “I have no preference when it comes to seating”, 64% of the Filipinos surveyed agreed with it. We simply are not very particular where we end up sitting, as long as we get where we’re going, right?

We are also among those who like to chat during a flight. Asked whether they agreed with the statement ‘I enjoy making conversation with the people sitting next to me’, 74% of Filipinos agreed, compared with 57% for the general survey population. The only ones chattier than us are those from Malaysia (77% agreed with the statement). Considering the long flights to the Philippines, I don’t think this is surprising at all. Who would want to keep silent for 10 hours straight?!? Mapapanis naman ang laway mo, no? (Your saliva will go stale.). Besides, chances are, we’d be sitting beside a fellow Filipino, so of course, we’d want to chat.

These results go hand in hand with the easy-going nature of Filipinos in general. We’re easy to please and aren’t prone to complaining. In other words, we’re generally happy travelers, even on long-haul flights.
