Survivor Philippines Episode 25: Health vs. Usefulness

Survivor-philippines-linkFaced with unrelenting rain and cold, Naak and Jarakay made the best of their situations. In the previous episode of Survivor Philippines, Naak, which had immunity for this week, focused on improving their camp to better withstand the elements. Jarakay, on the other hand, also had the Tribal Council to face.

Episode 25 aired on October 17, 2008 in the Philippines

The food situation in Jarakay had gotten worse. For their first meal in this episode (Day 15), all they had to eat was rice. Charisse described the atmosphere in their camp as too sad, because of the lack of good food and the prospect of the Tribal Council.

At Naak, Kiko, JC and Rob renewed their alliance. They analyzed the decision that Jarakay had made in voting Gigit out. Kiko said that for the next Tribal Council, if it were up to him, he would vote Nikki out.

 Jarakay’s Pre-Vote

The Jarakay members talk on-camera about the decision that they will have to make. It seemed Nikki was the next one on the block, based on statements made by John, Vern and Jace.

John, on the other hand, was showing signs of physical weakness. Jace talked to him about the possibility of him fainting again, and that the tribe didn’t want anything bad to happen to him. John showed disappointment about his alliance turning against him. Jace said that he will miss John.

Meanwhile, Naak had several visitors to their camp. Wild monkeys checked out the castaways.

Tribal Council

Jarakay was welcomed to Tribal Council by host Paolo Bediones. They discussed the last two challenges that they lost. Particularly difficult for them was the loss of the lechon feast.

Paolo noticed that, every time Jarakay lost, it was by a wide margin. They didn’t even score in the latest immunity challenge.

Paolo looked forward to the merger of the two tribes, when there was a possibility that Jarakay would be severely outnumbered by Naak members. Zita and Kiko were identified as threats in Naak.

Before the voting began, each member had a one-on-one time with Paolo. John was asked to talk about his physical condition. He had been feeling very weak almost daily. Jace talked about Nikki being pampered, and John not the same as he was before. Jace praised Vern’s “warrior heart” but asserted that he wanted to win.

Nikki got emotional during her talk with Paolo, lamenting the fact the there were fewer of them. She said that she’d volunteered to be voted out, for the good of the tribe.

Charisse said that she didn’t think the women’s alliance would continue into the merger. Vern was asked outright who she would vote for, and her apparent answer was Nikki, describing her as a princess sitting on a teacup (a Filipino metaphor). Marlon said that Nikki was deserving to be on Survivor Philippines because she was probably still striving.

The choice apparently was between John’s health and Nikki’s lack of contribution to the tribe.

In the end, Jarakay’s concern for John’s health was predominant. Everyone, including Jace, voted for John. He became the 7th person to go home.
