Survivor Philippines Episode 37: The Seeds of Discord in Naak

After yesterday’s episode of Survivor Philippines, I was left wondering 2 things: 1) where was the secret location that JC, Kiko, Zita and Rob will have a night off from island life? and 2) how did the remaining Naak members, Kaye and Cris, feel about being left behind?

In Day 22 of Survivor Philippines – Episode 37, which aired on November 4, 2008 – 5 members of Chalam were left simply to watch as the four boarded a boat.

Kaye thought they might go to a spa and wondered why she and Cris were not chosen to go along with JC. Cris said he did have any idea about where the 4 were going, in matching clothes no less, and just wished them a safe trip.

At the boat, Rob kissed Mommy Zita on the head and told her that he and the others had talked about taking her if there was a reward challenge where they could take someone along. The four’s discussion turned to who they were going to vote off next. They agreed that Marlon was back in the priority list.

Back on the beach, Marlon was already trying to sow seeds of disharmony and doubt in Cris and Kaye. He said that they had seen the “final four”. Kaye said “that’s bad!”. Marlon retorted that it’s not bad, but the truth. Marlon said in the on-camera interview that he was showing his dark side; it was still part of his strategy to stay in the game. Cris, meanwhile, admitted to feeling left out but not to the point of losing his trust in his former tribemates.

JC said that he had faith in Kaye and Cris, and knew that they would understand his choices. And it seemed that Marlon’s attempt did not work. Cris just said that however far he goes, he would be thankful. Kaye got irritated with Marlon, and said he was just trying to get attention.

Kiko knew that the situation could be used by any “opportunistic” castaways to their advantage.

The Excursion

Rob was expecting that they would be brought to a spa or luxurious hotel, and was surprised that they went to a village. Apparently, the excursion’s aim was to meet Thais and introduce Philippine culture and food to them. The four experienced Thai hospitality first hand, and enjoyed very good authentic cuisine. After their meal, the four were given a tour of the village. They all expressed gratitude at the experience.

Back at the Chalam camp, the castaways expressed their irritation at Marlon’s scheming ways. Kaye confided to Charisse about the things that Marlon had told her about Jace asking JC to cross over to them. Charisse was confused as to why Marlon wanted to cultivate the image of the castaway that everyone didn’t like.

Kiko and the other three enjoyed fresh coconut juice. Kiko drew the village scene in journal. JC said that he felt bad for Cris and Kaye for not being with them.

Tribal Loyalty vs. Individual Survival

Marlon brought gifts of wild berries to try and appease the others. He told the others that the game was for everyone to win. Kaye said that before, she wanted Zita to win, but now she has recognized that she is there to try to win as well. Kaye said that Marlon had more knowledge about food sources that Zita.

Marlon said that the four who left were the strongest, and if left to their plans, would like be the last four castaways left. He frankly offered the suggestion to Kaye to change the tables on them. It seemed that Kaye was the Naak member most affected by Marlon’s suggestions.

Marlon also worked on Cris and Vern to try and form an alliance of 5 against the 4 who left the island. Until late into the night, Marlon was still hard at work. He tried to convince Kaye and Cris that disloyalty wasn’t a bad thing in this game. Cris finally had enough, and walked off. It was then Vern’s turn to try to turn him and Kaye. Kaye later said that she didn’t want an alliance anymore. But have the seeds of Naak’s break-up been sown?
