Survivor Philippines Episode 53 (11-26-08): Black versus White

After JC won the immunity challenge in the last episode of Survivor Philippines, the energies of the remaining castaways was again used to try and find ways to remain in the game.

Rob told Zita about Kaye’s plans against her. He felt that everybody was trying to get a feel for the way the others would vote.

Zita didn’t know who Kaye was really going to vote for, since Kaye had told her their choice was either JC or Rob.

Rob also talked to JC about Kaye’s reaction after the immunity challenge. Kaye had asked him if he wasn’t afraid that Zita would easily win over any of them.

Cris wanted Charisse to leave before Kaye. Rob disagreed and said that it was Kaye’s time to “bid sayonara to the Chalam tribe.

Kaye confided to Charisse about her own confusion, saying that her plans had been destroyed. She had wanted Charisse to be with her in the Final Two.

Meanwhile, Charisse didn’t seem to buy what Kaye was saying. She wanted to be in an alliance with JC to ensure her own survival. JC and Rob, too, seemed to know that Kaye was going to flip-flop against them.

Rob told Cris that Kaye wanted an “all-girls” group to be the final castaways, and would thus vote off JC, then Rob, then Cris.

Before going to Tribal Council, the women placed shell necklaces around their heads. Charisse and Kaye planned to dress Cris in Kaye’s bikini top, but he removed it later. At Tribal Council, host Paolo Bediones called the jury. Vern entered wearing a sparkling dress, at which Charisse rolled her eyes.

Before voting began, host Paolo Bediones asked his customary questions of the castaways. His first was whether the tribe members thought they deserved to be where they were now. Rob said yes, because of his consistency in the game.

Next, Paolo asked about Zita whether she now knew how the game is played. Zita said that she knew that not everyone she talks to in the game should be believed, and that they would get only what is meant to be theirs. An example is the P50,000 from the reward challenge. Even though she was the first to get the five necklaces, the money wasn’t mean to be hers. Zita also explained why she helped Cris when they were digging for the planks in the last immunity challenge. She wanted to be remembered well by the castaways and by the Filipino viewers.

Cris and Kaye were asked about whether they knew whom they could trust among the castaways. Cris said that he knew the others wouldn’t trust him anymore, after what happened to Kiko. Kaye said that she would trust in only one person to survive the game.

Cris was admonished by Paolo not to wear the bikini top again in the Tribal Council.

Paolo asked the castaways, except for JC, which of them was anxious about being voted off that night. Charisse immediately raised her hand. Zita, Kaye, Cris and, eventually, Rob also raised their hands.

Paolo asked them whether they thought they had even one ally in the game. Zita said yes. Charisse said she didn’t know. Charisse expressed her gratitude to Marlon for giving her the white pearl during the last Tribal Council. She said they had become friends during the game.

When voting began, we saw Kaye choosing Charisse, saying she only wanted to bring back the others’ trust in her. Charisse, on the other hand, voted for Kaye, citing her need for an alliance with JC to stay longer in the game. Cris also voted for Charisse. But because of the white pearl, only of these two votes were counted against Charisse. The rest of the castaways voted for Kaye, making her the 13th person to leave the island and the 5th member of the jury.

Before she left, Kaye was made to choose between the black pearl and the white pearl. She chose the black pearl and gave it to Cris.

Paolo reminded the remaining castaways that they only one week on the island and that they would face even greater challenges ahead. At the end of the episode, Cris thew the black pearl into the ocean, saying that he didn’t want the others to suffer because of it.
