Survivor Philippines Episode 54 (11-27-08): The Best Reward

After the last Tribal Council on Survivor Philippines, Cris had thrown the black pearl into the ocean.

Rob told Cris that he had put himself in danger of leaving the island because of what he had done. But Cris was firm in his decision. Cris said that he was ready to leave if it was his time.

Rob recounted that Cris had told him that he (Cris) would vote for Kaye. But Cris had voted for Charisse, which Rob said had an undesirable result.

At the camp, Zita observed that the other castaways did not really help in the preparation of the meal. She said that it was hard, but it was probably what the others were used to, being with maids at home.

The treemail that they received that day seemed to give them hope of possible reunions. Cris got teary-eyed. Charisse said that they shouldn’t hope too much.

The Partners

Before the reward challenge, host Paolo Bediones told the castaways that it would test their concentration. They will work in teams, but Paolo would choose their their partners for them.

Paolo called Zita forward and told her that her partner would be Leo, her son-in-law, who came running out to meet her out on the sand. The other castaways at this point were crying, in anticipation of their own reunions.

Cris’ partner was his mom. Cris ran to her, crying “Ma! Ma!”. They fell down on the sand in an embrace. Rob’s partner was no one else but his Kuya Bobot. Rob gave his brother a shell necklace. Charisse’s partner was her father, Chito. She sobbed as she ran to put her arms around him. JC’s partner was his girlfriend, Alu. They exchanged hugs, at which JC shed tears like the others.

Flags and a Special Trip

The challenge required the castaways to be blindfolded and tied to at the waist. The other end of their ropes were attached to the platforms their loved ones were standing on. Their partners were to direct them in the direction of 15 colored flags that they had to collect. The partners were to clip the collected flags on a line behind them. The task required close communication between the team members and concentration for the castaways listening for their loved ones’ voices. The reward was an overnight stay in Bangkok with their loved ones.

Zita, Cris and JC were the ones who were leading at first. But Zita closed out the game, winning a trip for herself and her son-in-law. They were to leave that very hour.

Paolo told Zita she could pick another team to go with Leo and her to Bangkok. Rob backed away as though precluding himself from her choices. Cris had his hands together as though prayin that he and his mom would be picked. Cris jumped up in joy and tears and said, “Mommy, thank you!”. The other castaways celebrated with them.

Zita was also asked to choose a castaway’s loved one to stay overnight with them at the camp. Zita picked JC’s girlfriend, Alu.
