Survivor Philippines Episode 56 (12-1-08): Balancing Act

With only 5 castaways left on the island of Koh Tarutao, Survivor Philippines has been getting more emotional and more challenging.

There are only a few episodes left, before we find out who wins the P3 million and is crowned the first Pinoy Sole Survivor.

In Episode 56, which aired on December 1, 2008, Day 35 began with Rob, Charisse, and JC left at camp. They received their treemail, which seemed to describe an immunity challenge to test their endurance.

Charisse said that it will surely be difficult for her. Rob said that Cris would try his best because he (Cris) knew that he would be next to leave. “Cris is hanging for his dear life.”

Cris and Zita returned to camp and found the others resting inside their shelter. JC said that, with Zita being back, they could now enjoy her cooking again. Zita and Cris didn’t give too many details about the time they spent in Bangkok. Cris was still in a high about the joy that his mother experienced during the trip.

Rob said that the two, Cris and Zita, deserved and needed that Bangkok reward. He told Zita that had he made the decision, he would have chosen either Cris or Zita too. Rob was very happy that the two had a chance to experience these things through Survivor Philippines.

Balancing Act

Host Paolo Bediones welcomed the top 5 to the site of the immunity challenge. The challenge required the castaways to balance themselves on small moving platforms, holding on to two ropes. After 30 minutes, they had to let go of one rope. After another 30 minutes, they had to let go of the remaining rope. After another 30 minutes, they had to use only one foot/leg.

Paolo reminded them that they only had 4 days left on the island.

Once the castaways had to let go of their remaining rope, they found different ways to balance on the platform. The guys leaned on the poles. Zita sat down. Charisse remained standing.

Zita unexpectedly lost her balance and touched the pole, which took her out of the challenge. The remaining fou had to take one foot off the platform. The guys remained leaning on to the poles. Charisse stayed sitting down and raised her foot off the ground.

Rob slipped and fell, or so it seemed. But he said it was a strategy, because he relied on the strength of his alliance with Charisse, who had a good position, and JC, who had the strength to win. Rob asked why would he put himself through hardship.

Zita gave Charisse a tip to massage her toes to keep the blood circulating. JC, Cris and Charisse passed the 4-hour mark. Charisse tried to shift her sitting position on the platform, and slid off. The challenge for immunity left just JC and Cris. JC said that he prayed for the right decision, made signals to Cris, and stepped off, giving Cris immunity. The entire challenge lasted four hours, 29 minutes.

Nighttime Surprise

Back at camp, the castaways talked about the strategies they used during the challenge. Rob again said that it was useless for him to waste his energy trying to last on the platforms.

In the middle of the night, the castaways were awakened to go to Tribal Council. They did not have any chance to talk about who they will vote off.

Paolo invited the members of the jury to enter the Tribal Council.
