Survivor Philippines Episode 59 (12-4-08): Seven Challenges in One

On the last episode of Survivor Philippines, Rob won the reward challenge and took JC with him to enjoy a relaxing day at a spa in Thailand. Back at camp, Cris and Charisse were forming their own alliance against JC and Rob.

On Day 37, JC and Rob took advantage of a full and delicious breakfast to prepare themselves for the upcoming immunity challenge and their final days on the island of Koh Tarutao.

Back in Chalam, Charisse admitted that she had missed JC and Rob, but she had to make the most of the time she had with Cris. Charisse got the treemail and read it aloud to Cris. “History repeats itself…” Cris asked her to translate the treemail into Tagalog. Charisse struggled for several minutes with the translation for “history” before she remembered that it’s “kasaysayan”.

Host Paolo Bediones welcomed the remaining four castaways to their most difficult immunity challenge so far. There were 7 stations in a mega-challenge, composed of parts of previous challenges, that will test their strength, bravery and intelligence. In addition to the Immunity Necklace, the winner of this challenge will get the biggest reward on the show yet.

Seven Challenges

The castaways had to push Giant Wooden Balls to reach a mat. Then, in the Spooling Post, they will clip the end of strips of cloth to themselves and wrap it around themselves. Then they will lie on the sand and roll over to a wooden table. The table holds four different types of Exotic Food – scorpion, lizard, chameleon and millipede – which they had to consume before proceeding to the Elephant Wall

The castaways  had to climb the wall and jump on to a Cargo Net that they had to cross. At the end of the net was a Sandpit, where they had to dig for 7 Wooden Blocks with the Thai symbols for the days of the week. They had to put the blocks in order. If they made a mistake, a Cheat Board was provided way out on the water. After putting the blocks in the right order, the first castaway to raise his flag wins the Immunity Necklace and the biggest reward ever on Survivor Philippines.

JC was ahead in getting his ball rolling, but Cris got to his mat first. Charisse was way behind on her ball. JC was first to finish his spool of cloth and reach the food table. Charisse was still rolling her wooden ball. Cris finished his exotic meal first then proceeded to the wall. JC and Rob were close behind, trying to catch up with Cris on the cargo net. Charisse finally finished her Wooden Ball, while the guy were digging in the sand pit for their blocks. She ate the food with nary a grimace (she even licked her fingers after finishing the scorpion!), earning a “Good job, Charisse!” from Paolo at her side.

Charisse struggled slowly but surely up the Elephant Wall, earning more praise from Paolo. She caught up with the others, with a shout of “Yahoo! I can start digging!”.

Mealwhile, Cris pointed out one of the blocks to Rob. Charisse got a sliver on her finger, so she used her legs. She found her first block, then Rob found her second block for her. Rob found the block that Cris had pointed out; Cris asked Rob if he trusted him now. One by one over the course of one hour, the castaways dug their blocks out. JC found his seventh block first and went off to the cheat board before trying to arrange the blocks. Rob just stood watching JC on the blocks. Cris said that Rob was just too calm, as if leaning on a post. Rob said that he still has 2 blocks to go. Cris threw a block at him to try to get him moving. But Rob just seemed to give up.

Meanwhile, Paolo verified that JC had gotten the correct order of blocks and told him to raise his flag. JC won immunity!

A Hard Choice?

Paolo then presented him with a choice: the Immunity Necklace or – and Paolo unveiled a drawing of a brand-new car by Honda. Rob and Charisse reacted at JC’s good luck.

Paolo said that there was a twist to the reward – JC could choose only one (Immunity Necklace or the car). He then had to choose one of the other castaways who will receive the other reward. JC picked the car. He smashed an ceramic elephant which contained the keys to his new car. Then he gave the Immunity Necklace to Rob. Cris smiled broadly but walked away from Rob (I wonder what he said).
