A Headstart on Christmas
Filipinos celebrate the worlds longest religious holiday. The Christmas season begins on September 1st, as chillier winds and Christmas carols start filling the air, and ends on the first week of January, during the Feast of the Three Kings.
The start of the ber-months is a signal that Christmas is near and a good excuse for radio stations to play Christmas carols. Most people start t buy Christmas lanterns to adorn their homes.
Although we do not have a real Christmas tree like in western countries, a good replica is available even on the streets and comes in different sizes (and colors too!).
The Christmas decors in most commercial establishments are good reminders to start ticking off ones long Christmas list. Even with this very advance reminder, the average Filipino’s Christmas shopping is not done before the shops close a few hours before Christmas Eve.
Despite the huge commercialism attached to Christmas the world over: Philippines, as the only catholic country in Asia focuses more on this festivity as a celebration of Jesus birth and therefore a time to be spent with ones family.
