"Ako’y Isang Pinoy" (I am a Filipino)

by Grace on July 24th, 2008

Wherever we may be in the world, this song will always reverberate with us and give us reason to be proud of who we are. Filipinos.

Ako’y Isang Pinoy” by Florante. Sing along with it…

Florante’s original version is found here

Lyrics and translation after the cut -

Ako’y isang Pinoy sa puso’t diwa (I’m a Filipino, in heart and spirit)
Pinoy na isinilang sa ating bansa (A Filipino that was born in our country)
Ako’y hindi sanay sa wikang mga banyaga (I’m not used to speaking a foreign language.)
Ako’y Pinoy na mayroong sariling wika. (I’m a Filipino who has a native tongue)
Chorus
Wikang pambansa ang gamit kong salita (I use the national language.)
Bayan kong sinilangan (The native land where I was born)
Hangad kong lagi ang kalayaan. (I always desire for your freedom.)
Si Gat Jose Rizal nuo’y nagwika (Dr. Jose Rizal once said)
Siya ay nagpangaral sa ating bansa (He told our nation)
Ang hindi raw magmahal sa sariling wika (He who does not love our native tongue)
Ay higit pa ang amoy sa mabahong isda (Is worse than the stench of a foul fish)
