Asia-Pacific’s Hollywood celebrates film festival in Manila

by Grace on October 12th, 2008

It’s the season for awarding films and actors, and the celebration rolls with the 6th Australian Film Festival from October 11 to November 7.

The festival opened this week with the VIP screening of “Romulus, My Father” topbilled by Eric Bana. The movie won top honors in last year’s festival including Best Film and Best Actor for Eric Bana.

Touted as Asia Pacific’s Hollywood, Australia has been showing off its talented actors and outstanding films since the 1906. We’re very familiar with these Australian actors who have carved out successful careers in Hollywood USA - Nicole Kidman, Geoffrey Rush, Guy Pearce, Cate Blanchett, Naomi Watts, the late Heath Ledger, Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe.

This year’s festival features the films “Home Song Stories”, an award-winning autobiographical drama about a glamorous Shanghai nightclub singer and her tale of survival in Australia; “Razzle Dazzle“, a fly-on-the-wall mockumentary about the tears, tantrums and tiaras in the world of competitive dance; “Clubland” starring Oscar nominee Brenda Blethyn who plays a stand up comedienne and single mother trying to revive her entertainment career; and the award-winning 1976 classic, Storm Boy. Viewing schedules are available here.

This year, the Australian Embassy in Manila sponsors the highly anticipated 6th Australian Film Festival at three venues around Manila and Los Banos.
