Concierge service with PLDT 101-811

“Seek and you shall find” is now true about your local PLDT.
With the “automated concierge service” from PLDT 101-811, any information you want to know will be on the other end of the phoneline. Well, perhaps not everything… but the list is comprehensive!
Anything from services, beauty tips, news, sales and promos, church mass schedules, entertainment and even jokes! Yes, just about anything I suppose, can be asked with PLDT 101-811, using its advanced voice recognition ability.
Now this new service is different from PLDT 187, which is the directory assistance and has a “live” person at the …read more

Flood-prone… rice

Flood-prone… rice

Flooding is not unusual in the Philippines. From the streets of Manila to the country fields, it’s not uncommon to wade in knee-deep water to get to where you’re going.
But have you seen rice that actually grows with the floods? Check this out – researchers from my old employment – the International Rice Research Institute at Los Banos – are inspecting some varieties of rice. Well, if that’s NOT interesting enough, perhaps the person outside the boat, who has to swim to make sure his rice field is doing well.

To the best of Philippine blogs and bloggers

The full set of winners for this year’s Blog Awards is listed here. The neat thing about this award body is I get to sneak at some of the country’s prominent blogs and writers. There’s community and network to be had among Filipino bloggers worldwide and having the best listed in one place is priceless. There are also unfamiliar blogs that I want …read more

In the Works: Philippine Web Design Conference

In the Works: Philippine Web Design Conference

On the heels of the highly successful WordCamp Philippines event, Ia at Stellify is calling for a stand-alone web design conference in the Philippines.
In the world of free blogs, and do-it-yourself blog designs, web designers continue to have a very important role in what we all encounter in our daily online travels. I think its high time that Filipino web designers get together to discuss the latest in their field. If you agree, contact Ia; planning sessions seem to be well underway.

Honoring great men and women of science

Honoring great men and women of science

There is such a prestige attached to the word “scientist”. You probably think of men and women in white lab coats, with binders in hand and looking like Einstein. Well, that is so not true. Not in other countries and certainly not in the Philippines.
Just yesterday, President Arroyo honored the Philippines’ fifty great men and women of science, mostly expertise in the natural sciences, but also some in entrepreneurship, business and crafts. Some of the names are familiar, because I’ve either seen them or met them in UP Los Banos. One of them was my former teacher in Biochemistry …read more

Featured Pinoy blog: The Four-eyed Journal

Featured Pinoy blog: The Four-eyed Journal

I sort of got alerted to Julius Rocas’ blog when I asked him about a carnival for Filipino blogs. So when he replied I took the time to check out his website – The Four Eyed Journal.
I found several interesting posts from his blog –
I was shocked to find that gas would be at PhP60.00 per liter by July. Better start walking now… or buy a SEAOIL Prepaid Gas Card. Apparently SEAOIL is selling these cards (at P1,070 valid for 10 weeks) and that lets you lock in the gas price, and saves you from further increases in …read more

Woes of a Filipina Gadgenista

Woes of a Filipina Gadgenista

I’m excited to bring in some fresh takes here on Filipina Soul with a guest blogger – Lia Amanda F. Espina. Lia writes for Gadgenista, the b5media’s version of “beauty and the geek”. She brings the latest news and updates on girl gadgets and everything else that’s geek-ishly cute and fashion-worthy!
I’ve been writing for the Gadgenista for about a year now (Yup, you got that right! Gadgenista officially had it’s birthday last April 28! Happy Birthday!) and as much as I’ve enjoyed writing about fashion gadgets for girls, it’s actually been pretty hard for me to come up with …read more
