FYI: Comments section under-progress

Hi FS readers. We have a new template, but some things need to be tweaked.
For example, we’re missing our comments section today. So, hang in there, and check back a few times. I know some of you want to guess the latest teaser. :-)
We’ll let you know if the comment section is up.
I did notice […]

Comments are not spam

The authors of Filipina Soul, that’s me and Maricar, deeply appreciate everyone who places their comments and participates in the very active discussions on this blog. I learn a lot more about the posts I write whenever you add your comments, and though I try to reply as much as I can, there are posts […]

Fruits

Mangoes, sweet mangoes! They’re everywhere, and yes, I’m having my taste buds pampered with their delectable sweetness.
I’ve also had guyabano (sour sop), small local bananas, green mangoes, star apple (which we had to search for).
I don’t know where I can get young coconut right off the tree, but that’s definitely something I don’t want […]

One Week

It’s been a week since we arrived. I feel as though it’s been much longer. So many things have happened. I’ve been to a lot of places, seen many people. My brother is married (!). My kids have adjusted to the time zone, if not the weather.
Last week, our schedule seemed so empty, but […]

Marikina

Marikina has been gaining reputation as a place that’s on the upward move. I saw this for myself. There are new malls and condominiums. The streets are clean and newly-paved. Evidences of a city that’s gaining economic grounds. I observed a positive attitude among the residents that speaks well of the local government.
One of the […]

Chowking

Another must-visit food place for us is Chowking. Love the food there. Siopao is a must. We’ve ordered the spareribs, pancit canton, sweet and sour pork, and chicken and rice. And still high on my list is their scrumptious halo-halo, which I seem to see on billboards everywhere I go.
The food is slower to […]

Jollibee

A visit to the Philippines wouldn’t be complete without a stop at Jollibee, the Philippines’ version of McDonald’s. We’ve been there, um, maybe 3 or 4 times already. Jollibee’s ChickenJoy is still as I remembered it. Crunchy pieces of chicken dipped in savory sauce, partnered with hot rice. Yum!
My sister said the burger is […]

Reporting Live from the Philippines!

I’m here. I’m home.
There is really so much to say about coming home. Where do I start? Perhaps the arrival? The flight? The here and now?
The flight wasn’t too bad, really. We got a little sleep, a few spills (apple juice, then we learned our lesson and just had water for the remainder of the […]

What a way to start Christmas

I can’t believe it’s here! My favorite holiday of the year!
It’s been a crazy pre-Christmas week for me but I hope to get some rest for the next two days. We’ll see. Yesterday was the last day of work (yoohoo!) and getting everything done before the week-long holiday was tiresome. But DH and I did […]
