Charming the Philippine Idol voters

by Grace on October 20th, 2006

“What an outrage! How frustrating, but totally unsurprisingly Pinoy.”

That’s Ryan Cayabyab’s emotional outburst this week when Reymond Sajor became the 3rd contestant voted out of the Philippine Idol’s finals.

“First of all, I’m shocked. Although right from the start we knew that what we say here has no influence on the voters. I can imagine next week, titira na ako talaga (I would be a hard-hitting judge). If the voters keep on voting out the best ones, ano matitira? Kantahan na lang ng nursery rhymes.”

Cayabyab obviously believed in Reymond’s singing abilities but as we all know, Philippine Idol is entirely NOT about talent.

Here’s Reymond Sajor’s response to Inquirer Entertainment when he was asked if he shares Mr. Cayabyab’s frustration:

“To be perfectly honest, I do. I know that winning this contest isn’t based on how well a singer did during a certain week, but on how effectively he or she has charmed the audience. But it’s not too late. It’s important that the audience become intelligent voters. They should realize that they should vote for someone not because that person is a friend, but because he or she really deserves to win the title.”

He’s really good, huh. He’s gonna pursue a singing career and is on the lookout for a manager. Check out the rest of the Inquirer’s interview of Rey Sajor here.
