Estrada’s Pardon a Shame!!!!

by Maricar on October 25th, 2007

In all my time writing here at Filipina Soul, nothing, and I mean NOTHING!, has made my blood boil as this news of Estrada’s pardon. It is an embarrassment! A mockery! A !?!@?!?@@! There are not enough words for it!

Just weeks after his conviction, President Arroyo does the unthinkable and sets this thief free. In case you haven’t noticed, Madame President, Erap was found GUILTY by the Sandiganbayan! What of their work now? Don’t you have any respect for the justice system? You have stolen the Filipino’s sense of pride and trust that the legal system works. So now, all the lesser thieves should be set free as well!

Ex-President Fidel Ramos had it right:

In a statement, Ramos said Estrada’s plunder conviction and pardon are “bigger than President Arroyo and/or Estrada himself.”

“…All Filipinos are stakeholders in this case,” Ramos said prior to his departure for Guandong, China where he was attending a business conference. His statement was made before Malacañang announced that Arroyo had granted Estrada full pardon.

Where is justice for those who suffer because of Estrada’s thievery? With the pardon, Arroyo’s message to politicians rings loud and clear: “It’s a free for all! Steal and steal and steal, and I will pardon you! You will be welcomed with open arms!”.

And here, to add insult to injury, is Erap’s statement upon learning of the pardon:

“I am glad that, finally, I will be of more help to our country. It’s about time to think of ways to help our poor fellow Filipinos,”

Erap, you should have done that when you were in office! You should have helped “our poor fellow Filipinos” then! If you really mean to help, refuse the pardon to set an example that justice must be served! And return the money to the Filipinos!

Arroyo cannot now claim that she is an advocate of clean government. Anti-graft and corruption, my ass! I am beyond disgusted!

undoudtedly, we can’t help but have second thoughts in mind what’s the aim of giving the pardon. Is this political accommodation? for whatever reason, we can only hope the president is right in her discretion in granting of the presidential clemency to Erap. Certain points, like erap’s age, unity of erring factions were considered in the decision. truly, the president was having a difficult time in coming up with such unpopular decision-forgiveness to Erap leading to reconciliation.

but certainly we can’t allow Erap not returning the stolen wealth to the coffers of the gov’t. isauli nya dapat ang ninakaw na pera kasi pag hindi that would be too much
