Facebook in Tagalog

How would you like to connect to your Filipino friends in Tagalog? Sure we do that with Kontakan and maybe Friendster. Well, now Facebook wants in and launching a Tagalog version of the famous social networking site.

It’s not JUST that you talk to your network in the vernacular, but the services and options themselves are translated to Tagalog. But as with our conversational language, the welcome message is in Tag-lish, that is a combination of English and Tagalog.

Take a look at the screenshot at Pinay SEO. What do you think Tagalog Facebook? Are you in yet?

FaceBook’s decision to show its welcome message in Tagalog (or Taglish, to be more exact) shows their ignorance of the current language situation in the Philippines. The Philippines is not Tagalog, even if the government wants the world to think that it is. This action is a gross insult to us Filipinos who are not Tagalogs.
