Filipinos: Immature on Sexual Matters?
In my family, sex (yes, as in S-E-X) was/is never discussed. It’s one topic that my parents never discussed with us, their children.
I cannot remember any of my parents ever talking to us how babies were made and stuff. Well, except maybe for that one time when I was seven or eight when my father was bragging how my younger brother was his “sculpture masterpiece”. Can you imagine?!
We just didn’t discuss sex openly; for some reason. Sex is one of those that we got to learn and know about only from school, books and peers.
Below are some interesting points that Jaime Licauco wrote today in his Inner Awareness column at INQ7.net about Filipinos and their sexual maturity:
In this highly conservative and outwardly religious country, anything connected to sex is taboo.
This is why this country will never attain intellectual and emotional maturity in sexual matters. We will forever remain in the adolescent stage of sexual development, forever curious because we are never allowed to satisfy our natural, healthy and harmless inclinations.
The more we suppress and censor natural and healthy expressions of sexuality, the more we arouse the public’s curiosity. Once curiosity is satisfied, it is gone. A person who has had a full meal and is no longer hungry will not want to eat again.

On a personal note: so very true! ;-)
